Job Overview

Supervised by Senior Instructional Designer, the Instructional Technologist 2 will be responsible for instructional technology systems, infrastructure, and faculty and staff support services required for the effective integration of technology for teaching and learning.

 

This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule with the option for one (1) remote working day a week and two (2) days a week during the summer semester. Residence must be within the Cincinnati Tri-State area (OH/IN/KY) with reasonable distance to campus to have the ability to report to campus as required. Remote work arrangements are subject to change in accordance with university policies.

Essential Functions

  • Work as part of a team to support technology-facilitated courses.
  • Consult with and provide faculty with training and best practices for using learning management systems, web-based resources, multimedia technologies, web conferencing, instructional software and systems for technology-facilitated course development, file accessibility remediation, captioning, and UC enterprise teaching technology tools; apply expertise in technology across a range of media formats and platforms; ensure that systems, products, and services meet organizational standards with regard to classroom technology needs and support.
  • Provide technical training, including workshops and programs, and production services to faculty using learning technology applications in support of online and blended courses.
  • Keep current with accessibility issues, compatibility issues, and emerging technologies and approaches as appropriate for online learning materials and management systems. Evaluate and revise documents and digital sites (Word, PowerPoint, PDF, Canvas, etc.) to ensure compatibility with assistive technologies and compliance with accessibility standards.
  • Coordinate with UC’s Digital Technology Solutions through referrals for comprehensive technology support.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners that are critical to educational technology implementation and problem resolution. Partners may include but are not limited to college and university academic support departments and offices; college and university committees; faculty, technology/multimedia staff, virtual learning management staff, and department academic support staff; and vendor support services.
  • Responsible for instructional technology systems, infrastructure, and faculty support services required for the effective integration of technology for teaching and learning; developing and documenting support/incident management processes, including identifying, reporting, and resolving issues and designing, developing, and producing solutions; identifying, evaluating, and defining current technology needs of faculty, staff, and students as well as future direction and trends in online learning.
  • Support UC Blue Ash campus learning management system protocols in Canvas including updating and applying UC Blue Ash template to courses each semester.
  • Liaise with the Ad Hoc Professional Captioning Committee to professionally caption videos in Kaltura.
  • Utilize a variety of software and development tools including Articulate and Camtasia.
  • Maintain a collaborative relationship and open communication with university community.
  • Develop technical documentation (designs, specifications, processes, workflows) and communications. May be responsible for technical development.
  • May provide mentorship and/or coaching to lower-level Instructional Technologists and/or student employees.

Required Education

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Six (6) years of relevant education, experience and/or other specialized training can fulfill minimum education and experience requirements

Required Experience

  • Two (2) years of experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) lecture capture, videoconferencing, technologies and pedagogical methods that promote effective use of learning technology.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Experience with the educational technologies, including the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS), Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Kaltura, Zoom, Teams, Camtasia, Articulate, as well as tools designed to make learning materials more accessible such as Equidox.
  • Professional development from QM (Quality Matters) and ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library).
  • The ideal applicant will possess faculty/staff development/training experience; excellent communication skills; and close attention to detail.

Salary/Hourly Pay Rate Information: $53,000 - $55,000
