Job Overview

The Department of Pharmacology, Physiology, and Neurobiology (PPN) at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine is seeking applicants for a full-time (12-month), non-tenure track, educator faculty position, likely at the level of Assistant Professor. This faculty member will serve three programs within the College of Medicine: The Applied Pharmacology & Drug Toxicology Master’s Program, the PhD Program in Pharmacology & Physiology, and undergraduate teaching within the Medical Sciences Baccalaureate Program (BS).

 

The Department of Pharmacology, Physiology, and Neurobiology (PPN) at the University of Cincinnati has a dual mission of research and education, each being fundamentally served by the others.  As a member of the PPN department, the candidate’s role will include serving as course director and instructor for Pharmacology and Toxicology courses along with courses designed to train students in integrating and applying scientific knowledge by critically evaluating scientific literature, interpreting data, and effectively communicating scientific outcomes through oral and written communication. Teaching experience and expertise in Safety Pharmacology and Toxicology is especially valuable, since this is vital to the Applied Pharmacology & Drug Toxicology Master’s Program.  The Candidate will work closely with academic directors and associate directors in ongoing curriculum and program development, while also supporting Departmental graduate students as an educational resource and advisor.   

 

FOR ALL FACULTY HIRES OFFICIAL ACADEMIC TRANSCRIPTS WILL BE REQUIRED AT THE TIME OF HIRE

Essential Functions

  • Directing and teaching Pharmacology (i.e., Safety Pharmacology) and Drug Toxicology courses. 
  • Collaborating with departmental faculty to develop course materials and strategize innovative teaching methods for general Pharmacology instruction.
  • Serving on curriculum and educational program committees, as needed
  • Experience with student recruitment and committee service including graduate program leadership, is desirable, but not required

Minimum Requirements

• Ph.D. in Pharmacology and/or Toxicology, or similar fields in biomedical sciences

• Experience in teaching at the baccalaureate and/or graduate school level

 

Required Education

Must have obtained a Doctorate or terminal degree from a regionally accredited college or university of recognized standing in a field appropriate to the requirements of the position. For positions within Performing and Studio Arts or Nursing, an appropriate Master’s degree may replace the Doctoral requirement.

Required Experience

Demonstrated excellence in teaching and research evidenced by strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals. Candidates for a tenured appointment should demonstrate intellectual leadership and impact on the field and potential significant contributions to the department, University of Cincinnati, and wider scholarly community.

Additional Qualifications Considered

• Postdoctoral research experience

• Experience in course oversight or administration

• Evidence of excellence in teaching at the baccalaureate and/or graduate school level
