Job Overview

Academic Advisors will assist our students enrolled in the BSN program to achieve their goals of earning their undergraduate pre-licensure nursing degree. As a member of an advising team in which students are placed at the center of all that we do, Academic Advisors work collaboratively with faculty and staff to identify and address the issues that students face while pursuing their degree.

Academic Advisors support students enrolled in our on-site BSN program but have the luxury of working a hybrid work schedule that includes both on-campus and work-from-home options after fulfilling all training, onboarding and approval of all required documents.

Advisors work in tandem with the Assistant Director of BSN Advising and Nursing faculty to determine an academic plan and map progress toward the completion of an undergraduate degree in UC's College of Nursing. Advisors are responsible for partnering with our undergraduate advising team on the development, implementation, and assessment of academic and non-academic programming for BSN students, focusing on overall student success and satisfaction. Engaging in ongoing professional development and training to maintain up-to-date knowledge about advising concepts, practices, policies, technologies, and student success needs at the university and in higher education is essential.

  • Serve as advisor for a designated caseload of BSN students through proactive outreach, support, and education. Develop a rapport of trust and accessibility with assigned students. Ensure accurate advice and quality support, contributing to persistence and a positive student experience.
  • Monitor student progress and develop graduation plans in partnership with individual BSN students. Provide information regarding curriculum, policies, procedures, opportunities, and guidelines for academic programs.
  • Evaluate student information and utilize data to facilitate enrollment and registration. Maintain advising and enrollment records. In partnership with faculty, assess advanced standing credit, substitute courses to meet graduation requirements, and create degree audit exceptions. Facilitate and complete student degree certification.
  • Evaluate student needs and provide appropriate resource referral to career, academic, counseling, and student life resources and opportunities.
  • Support students through educational transition processes (ex. orientation, exploration, transfer, transition, and graduation).
  • Recommend actions related to academic alert, probation, suspension, and dismissal of students.
  • Identify opportunities for high-performing student engagement and goal attainment.
  • Utilize current advising and student development technologies for outreach to students.
  • Engage ongoing professional development and training to maintain up-to-date knowledge about advising concepts, practices, policies, technologies, and student development needs at the university and in higher education.
  • Function as a member of the College of Nursing Undergraduate Advising team to ensure the proper workflow and outcomes of the unit. Collaborate with UC advising community colleagues to advance quality advising practice.
