Student Orientation Leader (SOL) Job Description

Student Orientation Leaders (SOLs) will represent the UC Blue Ash student body for incoming students and their families during Orientation and College Day programs over the summer. They will welcome, greet, and mingle with new students and provide guidance and support throughout orientation and College Day. SOLs will facilitate small group discussions and lead campus tours, they will assist with advising and registration, and they will serve as liaisons between the faculty, staff, and new students.

This position pays $11.00 an hour.

Primary Duties

  • Serve as UCBA student representatives at orientation and College Day!
  • Welcome, greet, and mingle with new students and their family members.
  • Provide up-to-date and accurate information about the UCBA campus and its resources.
  • Facilitate small group discussions with new students.
  • Provide guidance and support to students, peers, and colleagues.

  • SOLs are given extra consideration if they apply for the UCBA Student Ambassador position. The ambassador position includes a scholarship for tuition and fees if selected.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be a current or past UC Blue Ash student. At least one semester at UC Blue Ash is required (current semester counts.) Students who have never attended classes at UCBA will NOT be considered.
  • 2.5+ Cumulative GPA.
  • Recommendation Form must be filled out and submitted by a reference. Recommendation Form
  • Enthusiastic and knowledgeable about UC Blue Ash College.
  • Friendly and engaging with students and their families; able to make positive first impressions.
  • Promote a welcoming environment for new students and teammates.
  • Dedicated to the team and responsible for committing the necessary time.
  • Comfortable taking a leadership position on campus.
  • Reliable and Responsible.
  • Punctual. 

Required Time Commitments

Student Orientation Leaders will be expected to serve approximately 100 hours between March and August.

Training:

You must be available for all of the paid training sessions unless you have a Wednesday evening class:

  • Wednesday, March 25, 2026 from 5 to 8 pm
  • Wednesday, April 1, 2026 from 5 to 8 pm
  • Wednesday, April 8, 2026 from 5 to 8 pm
  • Wednesday, April 15, 2026 from 5 to 8 pm
  • Wednesday, April 22, 2026 from 5 to 8 pm
  • Tuesday, May 5, 2026 from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm
  • Wednesday, May 6, 2026 from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm

Summer Retreat

  • Friday, July 10, 2026 from 9 am to 4:30 pm

Responsibilities: Engage with teammates and campus partners during training sessions.  Complete assigned SOL training homework.  Re-energize and prepare for College Day at the Summer Retreat!

 

Orientation:

UCBA New Student Orientation sessions will be offered both in person and online for incoming Fall 2026 students.  SOLs must be available for a majority of sessions and must be willing to work both online and in person.  Orientation dates will be determined by mid-February and available to candidates before they commit to signing a contract of employment.  Dependable transportation to and from UC Blue Ash is required. Note:  The UC Shuttle does not run in the summer.

Responsibilities: During each orientations session, SOLs will provide support during orientation set-up, check-in, advising and registration, and the family program. Student Orientation Leaders will also lead campus tours, facilitate small group discussions, and direct large groups.

College Day:

Responsibilities: Available for College Day training and serve as Student Orientation Leaders during College Day in mid-August. SOLs will provide guidance and support to new students during this event. They will facilitate small group discussions and articulate important campus information to new students.  College Day will be in person.
