The Department of A&F Utilities Distribution Operations at the University of Cincinnati provides utilities for over 100 buildings and over 12 million gross square feet. Our Utilities Department has two plants on campus that provide electric, steam, and chilled water service to the University, local hospitals and surrounding areas. The plants burn a variety of fuels to ensure our reliability and cost effectiveness. Our staff are trained to efficiently operate and maintain the facilities and equipment, resulting in dependable utilities every day of the year. We are currently seeking Two (2) Utility Plant Managers who will, under general supervision from a designated administrator, manage the operation, maintenance, and personnel of the University’s Utility Plants.

 

A Utility Plant Manager provides direct supervision to plant operations and maintenance personnel. A Utility Plant Manager will ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of utility boilers, turbine/generators, chillers, and auxiliary equipment; verifying adherence to all equipment operating parameters and procedures/practices.

 

Characteristic Duties

  • Ensure that Utility Plant equipment is fully operational, maintained, and repaired as needed.
  • Supervise employees in the maintenance, repair and service of plant equipment, and facilities.  Inspect completed work for conformance to University specifications, and standards.
  • Develop weekly employee work schedules for all Operations and Maintenance staff.
  • Develop daily and weekly maintenance work plans and schedules for station staff.
  • Provide general and direct supervision to outside entities performing work in campus utility plants.
  • Initiate acceptable maintenance level corrections and formulate policies for efficient management and operation of power plants.
  • Analyze and resolve work problems, provide direction to employees in solving work problems.
  • Maintain production equipment in a manner that meets organization standards and ensure minimum equipment downtime.
  • Insure the proper administration of University safety procedures, ensure the safe isolation/lock-out and restoration of site equipment. 
  • Coordinate work with engineering and planning departments for upgrade of power plant equipment. 
  • Establish and maintain preventive maintenance programs and procedures.
  • Order materials and supplies.
  • Supervise and direct the activities of operations and maintenance staff including work assignment, performance evaluation, and employee development; including employee selection and disciplinary action.
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with five (5) years experience; -OR- Associate’s degree with seven (7) years experience;-OR- nine (9) years utility plant experience
  • Experience must include at least three (3) years supervisory experience
  • A Third Class Stationary Engineer License is required
