About the Department

The Transition and Access Program (TAP) is a four-year college certificate program for students with mild to moderate intellectual or developmental disabilities (ID/DD) that embraces the University of Cincinnati’s strategic direction of Next Lives Here making a positive impact on the world, promoting diversity and inclusion. TAP is a full-time program designed for students between 18-26 years of age who have completed their high school requirements. TAP is emerging as a leader in creating an authentic inclusive living-learning opportunity that builds career skills, academic achievement, personal responsibility, social networks, and a promising future. TAP students live on campus and earn a university recognized certificate upon completion of the four-year program.

The Transition and Access Program is nested in Advancement and Transition Services (ATS) in the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services. 

Job Overview

TAP is hiring for two Program Coordinator positions. One will focus on Academic Coordination and the other on Vocational Coordination. 
Specific job duties of the Academic Coordinator include, but are not limited to, serving as the academic advisor for all students in the program, assisting students with academic accommodations through Accessibility Resources, as well as being responsible for the recruitment and training of Academic Coaches. This position will also have a teaching component, focusing on courses in academic and achievement support.


Specific job duties of the Vocational Coordinator include, but are not limited to, partnering with the ATS job developer to identify new internship and job placement sites, assisting students in career planning and aligning their academic electives with career interests, being responsible for the recruitment and training of Vocational Coaches, as well as providing as-needed job site support to students and employers. This position will also have a teaching component, focusing on career preparation, vocational exploration, and fieldwork placement.

Essential Functions

  • Design/create and conduct seminars, classes, workshops, or programs for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Up to 50% of annual workload can be teaching, including the planning, development, and implementation of courses.
  • Plan, develop, and facilitate summer workshop courses and meeting for incoming students and families.
  • Evaluate student needs and provide appropriate 1:1 or group support. Provide guidance on academic, financial, career, and personal matters. Support may include developing and implementing evidence-based interventions or referral to university, local, or other agency resources.
  • Collect and monitor student and program specific data.
  • Maintain records of student contact time and prepare related reports.
  • Interact with staff, faculty, external agencies, other university departments, and community organizations.
  • May facilitate occasional research and analyze relevant literature, other benchmark information to develop grant proposals, new program ideas, and propose program changes.
  • Assist in developing extracurricular, social, cultural, and educational activities and programs relevant to the needs of the students. 
  • Support students through educational transition processes (orientation, transition, graduation).
  • May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to student workers, graduate assistants, and other volunteers.

Required Education

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Five (5) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education experience.

Required Experience

One (1) year of program coordination experience, particularly with individuals with intellectual and development disabilities.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Master’s degree in Special Education, School Psychology, Occupational Therapy or another related field.
  • Professional Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. 

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

  • Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
