The Student Support Services program, a component of the TRIO family of programs, plays a pivotal role in assisting low-income, first-generation, and students with disabilities in realizing their aspirations for higher education. This program receives federal funding from the U.S. Department of Education.

Job Overview

The Academic Success Coach will be responsible for supporting a cohort of approximately 100 students who have been identified as a first-generation college student, eligible to receive the Pell grant, and is underrepresented in higher education.  The Academic Success Coach will provide support for students toward college success including support and referrals in academic, financial, and social contexts. Although not responsible for managing each student’s academic and financial requirements, the Success Coach will help students navigate their college experience by partnering with campus constituents in Academic Advising, OneStop, Student Affairs and Academic Affairs. Additionally, Academic Success Coaches will help students explore their purpose and develop self-motivation and tools/resources to be successful as college students. 

Essential Functions

  • Provide personalized outreach routinely – such as phone calls, text messages and emails – regarding registration, advising, financial aid, and personal responsibility.
  • Meet 1:1 monthly with each student to provide specific support or assistance on an individual basis; refer students to applicable support resources.
  • Check academic and financial status of students and follow up as needed.
  • Facilitating and/or coordinating workshops on topics including navigating financial aid, personal goal setting, time and task management, physical and emotional wellness, etc.
  • Maintaining data on outreach, your interactions and student engagement in the coaching program through UC systems including My Bearcat Network and Catalyst.
  • Facilitating monthly cohort celebrations/socials and group experiences to help navigate opportunities at UC.
  • Participating in meetings pertinent to program planning, modification and continuous improvement.
  • Teaching the Success Coaching Seminar which meets every other week for students in UC 

 

Blue Ash’s TRIO Student Support Services Program Responsibilities of this position will be allocated as follows:

  • 50% - Individual meetings and follow-up with students
  • 10% - Success workshop prep and facilitation
  • 5% - Meetings and ongoing training
  • 10% - Student outreach initiatives
  • 25% - Student data review and tracking

Required Education

Bachelor's Degree.

Required Experience

  • One (1) year of experience working with college students or within higher education.
  • Demonstrated experience working with various students or populations in a college or university setting.
  • Knowledge of educational barriers facing underrepresented students.
  • Comfortable with the use of technology including Microsoft Office applications and social media.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Proven track record of collaborating with students from various backgrounds, including those from underrepresented communities, ideally within an academic institution. Familiarity with challenges encountered by marginalized students and adeptness at establishing collaborative relationships with both the university and local community.
  • Proven expertise in program and event planning, as well as effective management. A collaborative and team-oriented approach, coupled with innovative strategies for coordinating and facilitating Student Activities. Proficient in utilizing technology, including Microsoft Office applications and social media.
  • The preferred candidate should possess relevant experience in collaborating with college students or within higher education contexts.

  • Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
