The University of Cincinnati Office of Innovation (OoI) is seeking to hire two student Fellows to join the Tech Transfer team.  The Tech Transfer team in OoI is responsible for patenting, marketing, and licensing advanced technologies invented by faculty, students, and staff at UC.  The fellows will be introduced to the business-side of transferring UC inventions from the lab to the marketplace.  These paid positions will enable students to combine their science background with technology transfer - a complex business combining valuation, patenting, marketing, licensing, and policy.  The primary working location for these positions is at UC’s new 1819 Innovation Hub.


Working with UC’s licensing associates, the fellows will focus on screening and evaluating inventions to help determine their commercialization potential. Fellows are mentored through assigned tasks related to:

  • encouraging faculty, student, and staff engagement the 1819 Innovation Hub,
  • technology assessment,
  • developing patenting strategies,
  • marketing UC technologies,
  • writing non-confidential summaries,
  • introduction to licensing and negotiating practices,
  • reviewing contracts,
  • monitoring technology development, and
  • technology transfer policy.



- up to 2 positions (part-time during school year and possibility of full-time during summer) available

- one with a Life Sciences Background (e.g, Biology, Medicine, Physiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics)

- one with a Physical Sciences Background (e.g., Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics)


Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 16 years of age.
  • Enrolled at a post secondary institution or a secondary school
  • Enrolled at least part-time (one or more credit hours if at a post-secondary institution), with the exception of summer term, or will be a registered student during the next academic term;



  • Any UC Student actively pursuing a science degree (graduate or undergrad); or an MBA or JD, with an interest in Intellectual Property and a technical background
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills


Preferred Knowledge

Technically proficient students who have completed or are enrolled in intellectual property, patent and/or marketing courses
