Job Overview

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is looking for qualified individuals to apply for the Staff Clinician position and be embedded within the UC College of Medicine (UC-COM). They will join an energetic, multidisciplinary, culturally informed collaborative team of mental health professionals in the Counseling and Psychological Services at the University of Cincinnati (UC-CAPS). In this role they will provide direct clinical counseling services to UC-COM Medical students, PhD students, and MS students. They will also develop and provide outreach to the UC-COM community and help build a supportive community to ensure the academic success and well-being of the medical and graduate students. This position is a unique opportunity for the successful candidate to play a major role in supporting the training and well-being of tomorrow’s physicians and biomedical scientists.

Essential Functions

• Provide direct counseling services to medical and graduate students at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (UC-COM), including intake evaluation, counseling (including individual and group counseling), and emergency management, within the stepped care model.

• Provide consultation to UC-COM regarding counseling needs and services.

• Develop and provide outreach to students, faculty, and staff to better understand and develop approaches to reduce mental health stress in the students.

• Serve as liaison for counseling center to the UC-COM community and training programs.

• Participate in training program(s) within the counseling center. • Develop and coordinates programs within the counseling center.

• Collect data for program coordination.

• Keep abreast of developments in professional field, related to student mental health, cultural competency, and equitable access to services.

• Represent UC-CAPS and UC-COM on committees and speak on request to UC-COM departments, faculty groups, and training programs.

• May provide direct or in direct supervision to staff or trainees.

• Perform related duties based on departmental need.

 

Required Education

Master’s Degree in Social Work or Counseling, or Doctorate Degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology (PhD or PsyD).

Required Trainings/Certifications

  • Must be independently licensed or licensed eligible as a psychologist, social worker, or clinical counselor in the State of Ohio, with the ability to supervise in their discipline.
  • License must be achieved within six (6) months of date of employment.

Required Experience

Three (3) years of clinical experience.

Additional Qualifications Considered

• Experience working in a college or university counseling center,

• Experience in a STEM education setting, preferably within an environment of post-undergraduate higher education, or other high achieving and demanding academic environment.

• Experience identifying issues associated with adult learning disorders

• Experience with manualized treatments such as CBT, DBT, ACT.

• Experience working as an integral member of a multi-disciplinary team

• Familiarity working with under-represented students and students from marginalized groups

• Familiarity with trauma-informed interventions

• Experience working with students of color, first-generation college students, and in an urban campus environment

• Experience in facilitating group therapy

Physical Requirements/Work Environment
