Job Overview

This position will serve the UC Blue Ash (UCBA) community, a two-year regional campus of the University of Cincinnati, as an Embedded Counselor, and be a member of our energetic, multidisciplinary, culturally-informed collaborative team of mental health professionals at Counseling and Psychological Services (UC-CAPS)

 

Counseling and Psychological Services at the University of Cincinnati (UC-CAPS) is the essential counseling center providing clinical mental health services in a stepped care model to students at the University of Cincinnati. This clinical staff member of CAPS will be embedded within UC Blue Ash, and receive supervision from a designated UC-CAPS administrator. In the role of embedded counselor, this position will provide direct clinical counseling services to UCBA students, develop and provide outreach to the UCBA community, and build a supportive community for the academic success and well-being of students.

Essential Functions

  • Provide direct counseling services to UCBA students, including intake evaluation, counseling, and emergency management.
  • Provide consultation to the UCBA community regarding counseling needs.
  • Develop and provide outreach to students, faculty, and staff, including but not limited to presentations, inter/intra-departmental meetings, collaboration with student groups, psychoeducation and workshops.
  • Serve as liaison for the counseling center to the UCBA community and community agencies.
  • Participate in the UC-CAPS training program.
  • Develop and coordinate programs within UCBA and the UC-CAPS counseling center.
  • Collect data for program coordination.
  • Keep abreast of developments in professional field, related to student mental health, cultural competency and equitable access to services.
  • Represent the department on committees.
  • May provide direct or in direct supervision to staff or trainees.
  • Participate in efforts related to recruitment (i.e,, Open House) and Welcome Week events to generate knowledge and understanding of counseling services at UCBA.
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need.

Required Education

Master’s Degree in Social Work or Counseling, or Doctorate Degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology (PhD or PsyD).

Required Trainings/Certifications

  • Must be independently licensed or licensed eligible as a psychologist, social worker, or clinical counselor in the State of Ohio, with the ability to supervise in their discipline.
  • License must be achieved within six (6) months of date of employment.

Required Experience

Three (3) years of clinical experience.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Experience working in a college or university counseling center or other academic environment
  • Experience working as an integral member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Direct service provision to two-year or community college students
  • Familiarity working with under-represented students and students from marginalized groups; including first generation students
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed interventions
  • Familiarity with collaboration with community resources

  • Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
