The University of Cincinnati, College of Engineering and Applied Science invites applications for a Senior Research Associate in the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics. This is a part-time (.40 FTE) staff position with responsibilities for developing, managing, maintaining and enhancing the design, architecture and function of departmental computing technologies, including the following major duties:

  • Primarily supports the overall technology needs for the faculty, staff and students of the Department Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics Engineering.
  • Server administration includes hardware and software installs, configuration and administration of Linux servers / operating systems, and high performance clusters.
  • Troubleshoots, analyzes and resolves problems associated with the system hardware, operating systems, software / applications.
  • Monitors system and host performance, ensures compliance with security standards and practices to protect against system vulnerabilities and ensures software license compliance.
  • Computer support functions for faculty and staff offices and research labs.  Platforms supported include Windows, Mac, Linux and mobile devices.
  • Other duties to include IT asset management, technology purchasing, email moderation, license management and web server administration.
  • Works collaboratively within College Computing and with IT staff in academic departments to ensure that technology needs are being met in a consistent manner in support of academic teaching and research.
  • Effectively communicates with internal and external stakeholders, especially with faculty and students.
  • Maintains a flexible work schedule to support users during non-standard hours as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a computing related field such as computer science, computer engineering, information technology, and demonstrated experience of at least two (2) years, or an Associate’s degree in a related field, and demonstrated experience of at least four (4) years.
  • Experience should include administration of Linux/Unix server and desktop technologies, cluster technologies and a high level of experience with supporting hardware and software of varying technologies, of a company, agency or institution with more than 50 employees.  

 

Preferred qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in Linux server administration using operating systems such as Ubuntu, OpenSUSE and CentOS, cluster technologies, such as OpenHPC, Rocks and OpenStack.
  • Experience with NIST-171-800 compliance regulations is a plus. 

 

This position will be a professional position paid at an hourly rate.
