About The Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering

The Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering offers undergraduate, M.Eng., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in the Mechanical Engineering program. The College of Engineering and Applied Science at UC has pioneered the mandatory cooperative experience for engineers since 1906 and has excellent relations with the industrial sector. The Mechanical Engineering program has 44 full-time faculty, about 120 full-time graduate students and over 800 undergraduate students. The department has well-equipped research and teaching laboratories that occupy over 120,000 square feet of space. Cincinnati has been identified as one of the most livable cities in America in a tri-state metropolitan area of 2.2 million, with excellent cultural and entertainment opportunities, and a moderate cost of living combined with a wealth of housing options.

Job Overview

The Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering (MME) in the College of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Cincinnati invites candidates to apply for the position of Senior Lab Associate. The Senior Lab Associate is expected to support academic laboratories in the Mechanical Engineering Program under the direct supervision of the MME Department Head, primarily in the area of electronics and electronic equipment repair.

Essential Functions

  • Support the operation, maintenance, and repair of electronic equipment and instrumentation.
  • Order parts/consumables and maintain inventory for laboratories.
  • Support faculty in the development of academic lab experiments, primarily electronic and instrumentation.
  • Provide technical support for academic or research projects as directed by the Department Head.
  • Attend assigned compliance training as communicated by the representatives of the University, the College of Engineering and Applied Science, or the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering.
  • Assist with laboratory instrumentation and equipment setup, safety orientation, and documentation.

Required Education

  • Associate’s Degree
  • Four (4) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Required Experience

Two (2) years of experience in an area of technical specialty.

Additional Qualifications Considered

• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills

• Knowledge of current laboratory safety and OSHA standards.

• A working knowledge of basic engineering data acquisition software packages
