Job Overview
The University of Cincinnati Cancer Center and Department of Environmental and Public Health Sciences (DEPHS) are recruiting a Research Manager to support administrative and research activities of the Cancer Center Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Shared Resource (BBSR) and the Cancer Data Science Center within DEPHS.
The position reports to the Director of the Cancer Center BBSR with dotted line reporting to the Assistant Director for Research Finance and Administration within the Cancer Center Administrative Core Office, and manages, coordinates, and assists with the following functions/tasks. Provides day-to-day administrative support to the Cancer Center BBSR Director. Manages and oversees administrative activities associated with time/effort tracking of BBSR faculty and staff; serves as an administrative liaison for the BBSR, Cancer Center members, and other departmental administrators regarding training, billing, invoicing, customer questions, reporting/tracking, issue resolution, and Stratocore system maintenance; collects Shared Resource usage and associated grants and publication data, and maintains databases; assures and completes timely and proper billings as appropriate; assists with yearly cost analyses, fee schedules, revenue projections and annual operating budgets for the BBSR; participates in both short and long term staffing plans for the BBSR; assists with the completion of business plans and Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) as required. Reviews policies and procedures to ensure compliance with UC and National Cancer Institute (NCI) regulations, requirements, and expectations; tracks and reconciles BBSR faculty and staff personnel efforts charged to other grants/contracts and the institution’s future P30 Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG); manages the dissemination of shared resource data for BBSR dashboards and preparation of the institution’s initial P30 NCI CCSG applications. Actively collaborates with the Cancer Center Shared Resource Director of the BBSR and Associate Director (AD) for Shared Resources; the Assistant Director for Research Finance and Administration and accounting team supporting the Cancer Center Administrative Core Office; the Executive Director for Business and Administration (EDBA) and other faculty leaders/staff within DEPHS; and others as required.
Essential Functions
- Develop a research agenda using appropriate analytical approaches, models, and methods; translate research results into timely and relevant policy recommendations.
- Coordinate and assist in the development of external funding proposals.
- Manage, oversee, plan, and conduct research; manage daily activities, including project development, data collection and data analysis.
- Assist with the dissemination of research findings and maintain systems for tracking project-related presentations, publications, and other outputs.
- Write and publish white papers, conference reports, opinion articles, blogs and policy briefs.
- May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).

Required Education
Bachelor’s Degree is required.
Required Experience
Four (4) years of experience in an academic, government, or private-sector research, staff, and/or administrative position.
Additional Qualifications Considered
- Master's Degree or higher, with preference for a science degree with biostatistics and bioinformatics coursework.
- Basic knowledge of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics and related softwares (SAS and R, etc.).
- Ability to build, lead, motivate, and assess a professional team.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple customer constituencies and faculty/staff.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, organize, and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
