Job Overview

A full time Research Associate staff position is available in the Genomics, Epigenomics and Sequencing Core (Director: Xiang Zhang) in the Department of Environmental and Public Health Sciences at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. GES Core is one of the best equipped laboratories in the College for the next generation sequencing and many other services/collaborations in genetics and epigenetics. It is fully sustainable and always maintains financial stability over the past 10 years. In 2022, it’s expected revenue is over one million dollars. Staff in the Core have opportunities to learn innovative technologies and operate innovative instruments for biomedical research, and attend national professional meetings. We are looking for a qualified lab Research Associate to undertake a variety of laboratory procedures.

Essential Functions

Perform experiments and records data in a relatively independent manner:

  • Participate in developing new techniques and services.
  • Interpret data and judging validity of data.
  • Participate in troubleshooting of experiments and optimization of experiment conditions.
  • Communicate with Core users and answer general questions.
  • The next generation sequencing and related experiments.
  • Single cell sequencing and related experiments.
  • Illumina Beadchip assay.
  • Genotyping.
  • Other general laboratory experiments such as isolating DNA and RNA, QC analysis, PCR/ qPCR and data analysis.

 

Maintain instruments and the core facility in good condition:

  • Detail oriented, excellent record keeping abilities and organizational skills.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Order and receive supplies, receive, and ship samples, and answer phones.
  • Perform other experiments as deemed necessary.  

Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree required in a related field.

Required Experience

  • In-depth knowledge of specialized field, process or discipline.
  • May require experience with specialized software programs. 

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • This position requires applicants to have initiative, good technical skills, productivity and personal organization, and work in a customer-focused environment.
  • Specifically, this position requires the ability to maintain well-organized experiment records and always keep the core facility clean and clear.
  • Extensive training will be provided.
