The College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Cardiology is recruiting for a full-time (100% FTE) Research Assistant. This position will support the University’s mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff, and all our activities. 


Job Duties:

  • Cell culture support (maintaining and plating cell cultures), including handling of human specimens and performance of molecular and cellular biology techniques
  • Assist the PI and senior investigators with conducting research utilizing genomics, molecular/cellular biology, fluorescent intracellular dye, and patch clamp approaches
  • Prepare chemical reagents and biological media
  • Collaborate with others in the lab/division to perform experiments and analyze data
  • Maintain experimental data/records and share these findings in weekly meetings
  • Present research results orally and in writing through conference and journal publications
  • Oversee organized work area to ensure that all items are available as needed for current research in the lab (maintenance of inventory log, place supply orders as needed, verify receipt of items)
  • Ensure safety compliance
  • Develop, modify, and follow lab policies, procedures, and methods for experimentation
  • Other related duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.A./B.S. degree in the Biological Sciences or related discipline
  • Skills in Molecular Biology (electrophoresis, RT-PCR, nucleic acid purification) and Genetic Engineering (e.g., adenoviral transduction)
  • Knowledge of Chemistry fundamentals (determination of molarity, protein concentration, dilutions)
  • Ability to use basic lab equipment, including balances and centrifuges, pH meter, spectrophotometers and microscopes
  • Proficient with computers/Microsoft Office programs
  • Experience with aseptic, sterile techniques, and cell culture
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with a diverse group of individuals
  • Ability to learn new techniques quickly
  • Exceptional organizational skills and time-management skills


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with patch clamp electrophysiology, small laboratory animals (mice, guinea pig), and genetic engineering (CRISPR/Cas9) 


This position will be a professional position paid at an hourly rate.
