A Research Assistant position is open in the Ifergan Lab in the Department of Molecular Genetics, Biochemistry and Microbiology. The person that fills this role will function as an important part of a new research group that started in August 2020. The lab works on understanding the contribution of myeloid cells in brain inflammation, in diseases such as multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease. The candidate will be performing tissue culture, molecular biology experiments, cell analysis by flow cytometry and immunohistochemistry, and protein analysis. The candidate must be comfortable to work with mice and human blood.


Characteristic Duties

  • Performs experiments and records data according to research protocols
  • Assists in design of one or more specific phase(s) of entire project(s)
  • Interprets data and assists in judging validity of data
  • Might perform statistical and graphical analysis of data
  • Follows appropriate protocols, policies, procedures, regulations, Good Clinical & Good Laboratory Practices
  • Summarizes test results.  Responds to concrete project/study questions specifically related to the work performed.
  • Responsible for the timeliness and quality of own work assignments as it relates to timeliness and quality of teamwork.
  • Performs assigned research.  Works under guidance of a more experienced professional. Meets assigned deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications;  Bachelor's degree in a profession/field or equivalent level of knowledge. 

Additional Qualifications Considered:   Bachelor's degree; -OR- Associate's degree with three (3) years of experience; -OR- five (5) years of experience. Degree in a related field. Experience in research coordination. Experience in routine laboratory techniques including: Cell Culture, Mice manipulation, Flow Cytometry, Microscopy, IHC/IF, ELISA, RNA/DNA extraction.



This position will be a professional position paid at an hourly rate.
