Job Overview
This position is a member of the University of Cincinnati Libraries Research & Data Services Group, which is focused on providing valuable research data services to the UC research community. This position will play a crucial role in advancing research and scholarship at the University of Cincinnati through the development and execution of a multi-disciplinary suite of services centered on research reproducibility, data literacy, data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), and data visualization. The successful candidate will offer support for faculty, students, and staff in the form of in-depth consultations, workshops, courses, and other targeted outreach, teaching, and development initiatives. The individual in this position will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and researchers throughout the research lifecycle. This is a 12-month full time tenure-track library faculty position.
Essential Functions
- Leads library services related to research data management, data analytics, AI in research, and other tools for quantitative data analysis and visualization.
- Performs instruction and consultations related to data management planning, analysis, visualization, and AI-related research tools and assists research community with identifying meaningful insights from data and metadata sources
- Designs and delivers workshops and consultations on the use of AI in research as well as topics such as data-driven automation and algorithmic bias
- Promotes and communicates best practices for ethical and reproducible data creation, and responsible use of generative AI, specifically in research and scholarship production, to members of the University of Cincinnati research community
- Stays abreast with developments and trends in data services, data visualization, and data analysis, and effectively communicate their implications to library and campus stakeholders
- Participates in committees, task forces, and organizations related to the duties and responsibilities of the position, and in support of UC Libraries’ broader programs and priorities.
Required Education
Master’s degree or other advanced degree in library and information science, statistics, data science, mathematics, or research-related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Experience
- Demonstrated expertise with data visualization and analysis tools such as R-Studio, SPSS, Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, MATLAB, Python, or other relevant software or programming languages.
- Applied experience with quantitative research methodologies, including, utilizing data analysis, computation tools, visualization methods to reproducibly analyze data, create robust data visualizations, create dashboards, infographics, etc.
- Demonstrated time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and on teams in a flexible work environment
Additional Qualifications Considered
- Working knowledge of AI tools and concepts in research support
- Experience in an academic or research library environment
- Effective project management skills
- Experience coordinating and promoting services
- Experience communicating and collaborating with researchers, including faculty, staff, and students
