Job Overview

The Office of Ethnic Programs & Services, a member of the Identity and Inclusion Unit within the Division of Student Affairs is seeking a multicultural practitioner with strong organizational, planning, and time management skills to assist in the development, planning, and implementation of programmatic efforts. The Program Manager will support underrepresented populations through campus programming, educational efforts, and advising students. This person will have a firm understanding of diversity and intersectionality as well as cultural and societal issues impacting students from African American/Black, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx/a/o, Native American/Indigenous, and multi-racial/multi-ethnic communities at a urban serving Institution. They will be charged to enhance cultural awareness through programming and training aimed at addressing such topics.  

 

The Program Manager will oversee identity-based programs and will assist in implementing programs for the Darwin T. Turner Scholars Program. In addition, they will support student organizations as well as design and facilitate experiential training for the campus community. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to build relationships across cultures with faculty/staff students, parents, and community members. They will collaborate with Student Affairs units, academic departments, and other university units as well as community and alumni organizations when appropriate, specifically local, regional, and national organizations which serve Latinx/a/o and API student populations. This professional will cultivate relationships as they provide an inclusive and engaging environment for students that supports the mission of the university.

Essential Functions

  • Assist in the development and management of EPS and I&I unit related program and events.
  • Develop and facilitate DEI related professional development for faculty and staff.
  • Implement policies and procedures.  
  • Maintain budget, prepare contracts, approve and monitor expenditures, prepare budget requests and financial reports.  
  • Act as liaison to internal departments, external entities, and community organizations.
  • Publish newsletters, manage social media and develop other publication materials.
  • Compile and prepare periodic reports and surveys.
  • May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need.

Required Education

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Seven (7) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Required Experience

  • Three (3) years of relevant experience.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, College Student Personnel, Counseling, Social Work, Sociology, or Multicultural Studies.
  • Two years of demonstrated professional experience and knowledge of current diverse student populations and concerns in higher education.
  • Experience with diversity/multicultural/international programming; creating and engaging in collaboration with individuals, groups, offices, and/or community members in programs and projects; advocating for identities that you do not hold; experience with social media and assessment; skills in grant writing, seeking sponsorships and/or managing budgets.
