Post-Doctoral Position in Community Psychology centered on Refugee Civic Engagement

Job Overview

A one year post-doctoral position is available in the Department of Psychology at the University of Cincinnati under the mentorship of Drs. Anjali Dutt and Farrah Jacquez. The expected start date is negotiable, with a preferred start date by July 1, 2025. This post-doctoral position will contribute to participatory research funded by AmeriCorps that centers on understanding the experiences and desires of refugee and immigrant seniors related to civic engagement. Continuation beyond one year is contingent upon grant funding.

We are seeking a post-doctoral researcher to join our team where we are conducting a community based participatory research (CBPR) project focused on civic engagement, social isolation, and well-being among senior immigrants and refugees in the greater Cincinnati area. This project involves collaboration with academics, community organizations, and members of diverse immigrant and refugee communities. Members of the research team work together to develop specific research questions, implement interview, focus group, and/or survey data collection, and implement actions to address identified concerns. The successful candidate will lead aspects of data collection, analysis, and community engagement, helping to uncover insights and strategies for supporting civic engagement among senior immigrants and refugees.

In addition to this project, the post-doctorate will also have the potential to contribute to other research projects focused on refugee and immigrant experiences.

Essential Functions

Abilities will include: 1) integrating relevant theories and knowledge to shape research questions, study design, measurement tools, and analytic methods, 2) analyzing existing and new data for co-authorship on scholarly publications, and 3) presenting research findings at academic conferences and to community stakeholders. Key tasks may involve: engaging with community partners, writing papers and proposals, designing study protocols, submitting IRB applications, overseeing data collection and cleaning, conducting quantitative and qualitative data analyses, interpreting and summarizing results, supporting research administration, and participating in regular research and professional development meetings with colleagues, mentees, and collaborators.

Minimum Requirements

-       A PhD in Psychology, with a preference for Community Psychology, however those with experience conducting participatory research in any subdiscipline are encouraged to apply
-       2+ years of experience with mixed-methods social science research:
·       Ability to analyze quantitative survey data using statistical analyses
·       Demonstrated capacity to develop social science surveys and interview protocols
·       Ability to collect and analyze qualitative data (e.g.,NVIVO or Qualtrics).
-       Experience with, and respect for, working in teams comprised of individuals with diverse identities and backgrounds
-       Publication record, evidenced by peer-reviewed publications
-       Independent and collaborative work ethic

Required Education

Doctoral Degree in the appropriate field or discipline, or the recognized terminal degree

Required Experience

• In-depth knowledge of specialized field, process or discipline.
• May require experience with specialized software programs. 

Additional Qualifications Considered

- Experience with community based participatory research or similar approaches (e.g., PAR)

- Experience working with large research teams, including ability to work across disciplines and with remote academic and non-academic partners

- Interest/experience in mentoring graduate/undergraduate students

- Demonstrated capacity for communication of research findings among diverse audiences including community members, non-profits, policymakers, and/or funders.
