Job Overview

A full time Post Doc Fellow position is available in the laboratory of Sean Davidson, PhD in the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. The incumbent will join a well-funded laboratory at the Center for Lipid and Atherosclerosis Studies (CLAS) at the University of Cincinnati Metabolic Diseases Institute.  The successful candidate will be involved in exciting projects involving the structure, composition and function of high-density lipoproteins (HDL) as well as defining how proteins work together on the surface of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins to work against hypertriglyceridemia in cardiovascular disease and diabetes Former post-docs have had ample opportunities to publish papers, apply for grants, travel to meetings, and launch their independent research careers by transplanting exciting projects born in our laboratory. All of our previous students and post-docs have gone on to excellent research positions in academia, government research, or industry.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct research experiments in a particular field within the pre-determined research scope and methodology.
  • Gather and analyze data and develop new ideas that promote current research.
  • Prepare data summaries, reports, manuscripts and presentations of research results.
  • Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentation; may assist in grant writing.
  • Keep informed of developments in field to maintain and enhance professional expertise.
  • Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies, as needed.
  • May teach techniques to others, train, and mentor junior research staff.
  • Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities. 
  • Play an active role in seeking career and research advice, both from the faculty supervisor and from other faculty members as well. 
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.

Required Education

Doctoral Degree in biological science, chemistry or a related field.

Required Experience

  • In-depth knowledge of specialized field, process or discipline.
  • May require experience with specialized software programs. 

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Previous experience in protein chemistry, proteomics, gel electrophoresis, western blotting, and especially mass spectrometry.
  • Previous cryo-EM experience.
  • Strong scientific writing skills and the ability to work independently.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

  • Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
