Job Overview

The Department of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position in Intelligent Robotics. The successful candidate will engage in pioneering research in the areas of robotic manipulator control, human-robot interaction (HRI), AI-driven decision-making, and manufacturing automation. This position offers opportunities for high-impact research, collaboration with faculty and graduate students, and dissemination of findings through leading journals and major conferences.

Essential Functions

  • Under the supervision of the primary investigator , conduct advanced research on robotics and automation using Matlab/Simulink-based computer simulations, Vicon 3D motion capture system, and KUKA iiw2 robotic arm, with a focus on vision sensing and monitoring for human-centered manufacturing automation, where robots augment rather than replace human capabilities.
  • Create a new computer vision method and AI-based safety assessment and decision-making systems to ensure robust risk mitigation in human-robot coexisting environments.
  • Develop HRI technologies to enhance safety to human workers in collaborative manufacturing scenarios.
  • Design and develop robot control strategies to ensure safe robotic operations in shared and dynamic human-robot environments.
  • Collaborate with two other senior personnel on the research team, by providing research data, answering questions, participating in technical discussions, and conducting technical demonstrations.
  • Advise graduate students on their modeling, simulation, experiment, and publication work through regular team meetings and daily interactions in the lab.
  • Publish research results in leading journals and present at major conferences.

Required Education

Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.

Required Experience

  • In-depth knowledge of specialized field, process or discipline.
  • May require experience with specialized software programs.

  • Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
