Job Overview

Perform master plumbing and pipefitting work. Supervise variously skilled plumber pipefitters in plumbing/pipefitting work. May supervise work product of other skilled and unskilled trades.

Essential Functions

  • Perform highly skilled plumbing and pipefitting repairs and installations; weld and solder pipe; rebuild traps and valves; operate cutting, threading and bending machines; repairs and installs lab, laundry, and kitchen equipment; maintain swimming pools and chemical balance in boiler and water treatment facilities and other related areas; repair and install backflow preventers and other plumbing fixtures. Install and repair steam and other utility lines.
  • Plan and implement inspection programs on equipment. Test and adjust mechanical systems. Resolve technical problems related to trade. Give information on code compliance, safety programs and technical issues. Make emergency calls as necessary.
  • Coordinate skilled trades activities when the supervisor is absent or unavailable; may coordinate schedules with other work crews. May be required to supervise work of semi-skilled and skilled plumber pipefitters and trades people; assist supervisor in allocating work assignments, reviewing and evaluating work performance, and in training new personnel; coordinate work with other trades.
  • Estimate costs. May prepare specifications for minor repairs which may be done by outside contractors. Inspect the work to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Maintain an inventory stock of parts and equipment; prepare related records and reports. Make cost, material and labor estimates. Prepare requisitions, work orders office forms, inventory lists, project record. Prepare job layouts from blueprints. Design replacement installations, set-ups and piping arrangements.
  • Maintain housekeeping conditions as prescribed by area.

Required Education

  • Approved certificate from an accredited related apprenticeship program
  • Five (5) years of relevant education, work experience, and/or other specialized training can fulfill minimum education and experience requirements

Required Trainings/Certifications

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable record

  • Oils: There is air or skin exposure to POLS (Petroleum, Oil and Lubricants) or other cutting fluids.
  • Atmospheric Conditions: Conditions that affect the respiratory system, such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
  • Close Quarters: Employees are frequently required to work in crawl spaces, shafts, manholes, sewage and water line pipes, and other areas that could cause claustrophobia.
