About the Department

The University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics competes at the highest level of intercollegiate athletics with the vision to reach Next Level Success for all 18 varsity teams and more than 450 student-athletes. The Bearcats have a proud athletics history, winning eight national championships and 118 conference titles. The Cincinnati men's basketball team is among the 15 winningest programs all-time, while the football team became the first non-Power Five program to compete in the College Football Playoff in 2021. Olympic gold medalist volleyball player Jordan Thompson, NBA Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson and Major League Baseball legend Sandy Koufax are among the several luminaries who have competed as Bearcats.

Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati (UC), Department of Athletics seeks applications for a  Photography Coordinator. This is a full-time position, salaried, with a comprehensive benefits package.  

 

Reporting to the Director of Social Media and Creative Content, the successful candidate will coordinate photography projects for athletic games, events, and recruits while following all departmental, university, conference, and NCAA policies and regulations.

 

The position requires some evening and weekend hours and travel with the team. 

Essential Functions

  • Photograph a range of athletic competitions and events, including games, banquets, and galas capturing critical moments that depict emotion, energy, competition flow and special memories in support of efforts to sell the Bearcats’ story.
  • Provide photo coverage for recruiting visits across multiple sports, including direct interaction with prospective student-athletes and their families.
  • Use technical abilities to decide on best angle/position/time of day or year, equipment setting to best suit subject and achieve desired results.
  • Setup and tear down equipment as needed.
  • Assist in managing digital photo storage and photo archival systems for historical upkeep of the department's files. Coordinate editing, cataloging and photo distribution.
  • Provide up to date images of current student-athletes to assist with branding through name, image, and likeness (NIL) and in support of the creation of electronic promotional materials to elevate the brand.
  • Advise on equipment and software upgrades. Make recommendations on equipment purchases to enhance the department’s photography capabilities.
  • May travel with athletic teams as necessary to provide on-site photography coverage at away competitions and events.

  • Collaborate with members of the creative team in the development and execution of promotional campaigns to increase reach, engagement, drive revenue and assist with recruiting efforts.
  • Lead creative meetings to conceptualize, shoot and produce high quality photography utilizing professional camera equipment and editing software.
  • Plan and execute studio photography sessions for individual and team promotional shoots.
  • Edit, manipulate, and alter images with industry standard photo editing software to ensure best possible photographs are produced and delivered.
  • Collaborate with manager to oversee the photography student intern program, including recruiting, scheduling, training, and daily operations. Ensure proper staffing for events.
  • Work closely with coaching staff to understand and fulfill sport-specific photography needs and preferences while managing expectations, addressing needs and solving issues.

Required Education

Bachelor's Degree.

Required Experience

1 year of experience in sports photography.
