About the Position

The University of Cincinnati (UC) Libraries seeks a proactive, service-oriented Operations Manager and Student Worker Supervisor for the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services (CECH) Library. The incumbent will manage the information desk, the MakerLab, Info Commons, and assist with management of physical library collections. Other characteristic duties include: supervising, hiring, training, and scheduling 15+ student assistants; supporting CECH School of Education students by providing content-area knowledge and readers’ advisory services for children’s and young adult literature; providing reference assistance to a diverse college population; overseeing end-processing of CECH Library curriculum materials; supporting CECH Library instructional services and e-learning initiatives; and performing targeted outreach. This position is a three (3) year term appointment.


Reports to and receives guidance from the Head of CECH Library.


Supervises 15+ student workers. Works closely with the UC Libraries Research, Teaching, and Services (RTS), Collection Development Services and Engagement, and Content Services departments, as well as other UC college and departmental libraries in support of common goals.


This position has an annual salary range of $40,000 - $45,000. The University of Cincinnati offers a comprehensive benefits package, which includes tuition remission for faculty and staff.

Job Overview

Manage operations and provide administrative services leadership.

Essential Functions

Manage, develop, implement, and assist with the administration of goals to achieve strategic objectives; assume management responsibility for a wide range of projects/tasks associated with primary business operations and/or corporate relations that have significant impact within the business function (e.g. training, website admin, etc.)  

Provide leadership by serving as a unit resource, consultant and liaison for directors and administrators within designated unit, as well as external offices and agencies to ensure conformity and compliance with operating procedures, university policies, collective bargaining agreements, state regulations and federal laws. 

Manage the functions of the assigned unit; develop internal procedures, implement quality improvement initiatives/controls and assess staff skills to ensure achievement of established department goals and objectives; ensures identify problems and recommend and implement solutions.    

Assist administrator with analyzing and interpreting data; research, develop, edit and prepare documents and reports; resolve issues and render decisions in which quality of execution has significant impact within the manager’s area and influences service delivery on a department and division basis.  

May monitor and reconcile ledgers and budgets for a designated unit(s). 

May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).

Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree

Seven (7) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Required Experience

Three (3) years of relevant experience.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Intermediate-level experience with Sierra ILS software.
  • Recent supervisory experience, including meaningful involvement in creating staff training programs.
  • Strong background and interest in children’s and young adult literature, including experience performing readers’ advisory and/or developing related programming.
  • Significant involvement in collection management projects, including inventory, analysis, and/or planning moves of physical collections.
