The College of Medicine Department of Neurosurgery is looking for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) position is part of a collaborative team model of care consisting of Attending physicians, Fellows, Residents and a team of NP/PAs who provide care for Neurosurgery patients in both the inpatient and outpatient setting.


Job Summary/Duties: Provides direct care to neurosurgical patients during inpatient stays and outpatient visits. Performs a physical exam based upon age and patient history as per the Standard Care Arrangement with a collaborating physician. Orders, interprets and evaluates laboratory tests and other diagnostic studies to assess patient's clinical problems and health care needs. Develops a treatment plan in collaboration with the physician and members of the multidisciplinary care team. May prescribe and monitor medications as allowed by state and University of Cincinnati Medical Center prescriptive authority. Responsible for inpatient discharges, rounding and floor call duties. Actively participates in research relative to area of specialty. Provides administrative support and follow up to ensure patient care is orderly and effective. Actively develops and participates in providing evidence-based education presentations and other learning activities for diverse disciplines. Actively involved with Quality Management, data collection and performance improvement initiatives. Other activities and/or duties assigned to achieve the overall mission of the position.


Minimum Qualifications for Nurse Practitioner: A Master's degree in Nursing and graduation from an ANA approved Nurse Practitioner Program. Three (3) years nursing experience. Current/valid RN license in the state of Ohio prior to start.




Minimum Qualifications for Physician Assistant: Graduation from a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessor agencies. Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Current/Valid license in the state of Ohio prior to start.


Preferred: Work experience as an Advanced Practice Provider in inpatient and/or outpatient Neurosurgery.
