Job Overview

As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the UC College of Medicine has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients. The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Nephrology is recognized regionally and nationally for leading and/or contributing to cutting-edge research, and advancing the knowledge about kidney diseases to patients, peers, and trainees. The division offers an exciting array of training opportunities in Nephrology, including enhanced training in transplantation, dialysis, quality improvement, and patient safety.

 

The Division of Nephrology is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) to provide provide care for UC Nephrology outpatient dialysis units and clinics in Greater Cincinnati area. The NP will partner with care delivery teams which are comprised of physicians, nurse practitioners, and trainees, to deliver high quality and patient-centered care.

Essential Functions

  • Rounding on patients on hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis in outpatient dialysis units across the greater Cincinnati region.
  • Monitor patient progress, assess dialysis adequacy, and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
  • Attend one-two half day clinic sessions per week to assess, diagnose, and manage a wide range of nephrology patients.
  • Maintain accurate medical records. 
  • Collaborate with other providers and members of the health care team in delivery of care and make appropriate referrals when needed.
  • Educate patients about medical conditions and treatment plans.
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need.

Required Education

Master’s Degree in Nursing and graduation from an American Nurses Association (ANA) approved Nurse Practitioner Program.

Required Trainings/Certifications

  • Valid Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license to practice in the State of Ohio.
  • Valid DEA license.

Required Experience

  • Three (3) years nursing experience.
  • Additional related work experience may be required depending on specialty/sub-specialty.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Experience in dialysis care (hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis) is ideal.
  • Familiarity with nephrology-related medications, patient management strategies, and transplant coordination is ideal.
