Nurse Practitioner, Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit

This individual will provide inpatient acute care services as part of the Cardiology team in the multidisciplinary Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit as well as the Heart Failure Consult Team.  Care will be provided under the direction of an attending physician, along with a rotating team of medical learners, and other healthcare professionals.


The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit is a high acuity unit with 25 beds.  The practitioner may provide care to patients to include, but not be limited to: cardiogenic shock, acute MI, acute CHF, post-cardiac surgery patients (TAVR, post-CABG, etc.) and post-transplant patient.  Management of care of patients on ECMO, IABP, LVADs, and/or Impellas, may also be required.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform comprehensive history and physical, consultative, and inpatient daily progress notes on adult CVICU and advanced heart failure patients under the direction of the attending Cardiologist
  • Coordinate care at time of discharge from the critical care setting to the general hospital population, LTAC, assisted living facility, or home
  • Participate in daily rounds under the supervision of the attending Cardiologist, collaborating with the multidisciplinary CVICU team, in establishing a plan of care
  • Reviews ongoing critical care needs, prescribes necessary medications, orders and interprets diagnostic tests, requests consultations from other subspecialties, and relays appropriate information regarding needs to the patient’s care team.
  • Attend and participate in LVAD/Heart Txp multidisciplinary selection meeting
  • Participate in advanced heart failure educational opportunities, quality, safety, and research projects per divisional need
  • Provides education to patients, family members, and healthcare providers about management and treatment of disease processes
  • Demonstrates teamwork by communicating effectively and working cooperatively with all members of the care team


Minimum Qualifications:                                                                                            

  • Current/valid RN license to practice in the state of Ohio with prescriptive authority prior to start
  • A Master's degree in nursing and graduation from an ANA approved Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program
  • Certification from a National Board as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
  • Current BLS/ACLS Certification


Additional Qualifications:

  • At least three (3) years in Critical Care Nursing experience, preferably in Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery and or Heart Failure
