Job Overview

College-Conservatory of Music Prep Division (CCM Prep) is looking for a collaborative leader with a love of performing arts education to join the Prep team in the role of Managing Assistant Director of CCM Prep. As a member of the senior leadership team, including the Director of Finance and Administration and Assistant Dean, the incumbent will oversee the Prep theatre arts, music, and dance divisions’ programs, working in partnership with division directors and faculty. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of CCM Prep, they will manage the lessons, classes, camps, and ensembles that CCM Prep offers our students in music, musical theatre, acting and dance. The Managing Assistant Director will identify opportunities for strategic partnerships that will further enhance CCM Prep’s presence in our community.

The Managing Assistant Director’s position is integral to addressing each of these strategic areas as a collaborative leader. Below is a sample of the kinds of activities one could expect to perform in this position. Please note Saturdays and occasional evenings are required (concerts, performances, events, etc.).

Essential Functions

  • In collaboration with faculty and staff, assess and design curriculum, classes and programs appropriate for a community school of the performing arts.
  • Manage (with appropriate faculty and staff) curriculum implementation, course scheduling, private lesson placement, student performances and ensembles programs in accordance with college and university policies and best practices.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for CCM Prep (e.g., faculty load, onboarding and evaluations, scholarships and aid, new students, withdrawal, program development and budgeting, etc.).
  • Oversee program budgets, approving and monitoring expenditures as necessary with the Director of Finance and Administration and Assistant Dean.
  • Represent CCM Prep for University-wide initiatives including CPS strong. Work with external partners to coordinate satellite teaching locations. Support, attend and participate in campus activities, meetings and programs, as well as serve on various committees.
  • Develop and write program descriptions to be used on our website and other promotional materials.
  • Communicate effectively with faculty, students, staff, and constituencies via phone, email, weekly updates, and monthly newsletters.
  • Manage CCM Prep operations functions (e.g. scheduling, keys, etc.).
  • Provide direct supervision of registrar/student accounts manager, around 40 adjunct faculty and 2-4 student workers (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).

Required Education

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Seven (7) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Required Experience

Three (3) years of relevant experience.
