Manager Special Projects and Programs - Business Continuity Planning

The Department of Public Safety is looking for a Manager of Special Projects and Programs for Business Continuity Planning. This position will report to the Director of Business Continuity & Emergency Management and will support the University’s mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff and all other activities.


Under general supervision from a designated administrator, manages and provides leadership to an assigned department or service center, or manages the daily operations, and plans the use of materials and human resources within a multifunctional area. Duties are too diverse and general in nature to be classified in any one functional area.

 

Note: this not a BCP Information Technology (IT) type of position. University of Cincinnati BCP IT contingencies are managed by UCIT.

Essential Functions

  • Manage, develop, implement, and assist with functions of the assigned unit; develop/write Business Continuity Planning (BCP) and Emergency Management (EM) documents/plans, unit procedures; ensures EM and BCP plans yield the expected outcome and meets established quality levels.
  • Typical duties will be to work with colleges and departments throughout the university to help develop/write BCP and EM plans. 
  • Manage, develop, implement, and assist with Emergency Management (EM) and Business Continuity Planning (BCP) decisions (minimal IT focus) in which quality of execution has significant impact within the manager's area and influences service delivery on a department and division basis.
  • Assist with formulation of BCP/EM standard operating procedures, response, recovery, drills, exercises, emergency operations center duties, and all other requirements within areas of managerial responsibility as directed.
  • May have limited authority for Emergency Management (EM) and Business Continuity Planning (BCP) purchases within the area of managerial responsibility; may provide input for annual unit budget (non-IT related).
  • May provide direct supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hire, orient, train, mentor, and evaluate assigned staff); assess skills and identify shortfalls to coordinator or develop training needs.
  • Represent the university in a positive manner and serve as a liaison with internal and external agents specifically in the areas of Business Continuity Planning (BCP) and Emergency Management (EM). Note: minimal BCP-IT duties
  • May serve on various university, division and departmental Business Continuity Planning (BCP) and Emergency Management (EM) committees, attend meetings/conferences and (EM) community events.
  • Complete other duties as assigned including special projects in the areas of Business Continuity Planning (BCP), Emergency Management (EM), and Emergency Operations Centers (EOC).

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree with three (3) years’ experience, -OR- Associate's degree with five (5) years’ experience; -OR- seven (7) years’ experience; degree and experience must be in a related field.
