Job Overview

Hoxworth Blood Center (HBC), University of Cincinnati, was founded in 1938 and serves more than 30 hospitals in 18 counties in Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky, and Southeastern Indiana. Annually, Hoxworth collects more than 100,000 units of blood from local donors to help save the lives of patients in area hospitals. Hoxworth Blood Center: Saving Lives Close to Home. HBC is located within the College of Medicine and is the only Regional Blood Center owned and operated by a University in United States.

 
The Hoxworth Blood Center is recruiting a full-time (100% FTE) Manager in the Department of Donor Services, to manage the donor service departmental Quality Assurance Program to ensure compliance with state, local, federal and Hoxworth standard operating procedures (SOP) and bargaining unit agreements. This position will support the University's mission and commitment to excellence in our students, faculty, staff, and all our activities.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee the development and maintenance of donor management tables for the Blood Establishment Computer System (BECS).
  • Develop and propose SOP revisions based on regulation changes to ensure compliance.
  • Review facilities and mobile location quality control documents; record daily activity and prepare monthly and annual reports; perform error analysis and make recommendations.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives.
  • Provide progress reports for senior management and keep staff updated.
  • Assess blood collection facilities to ensure compliance.
  • Provide input on budget development; evaluate and approve new supplies and equipment.
  • Monitor operations to ensure a high quality of customer service; resolve problems.
  • Coordinate computer needs of the department with Hoxworth Computer Operations.
  • Represent the blood center in a positive manner and act as liaison to other departments within Hoxworth.
  • May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.

Required Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Health Science, Allied Science, Medical Laboratory Scientist, Healthcare Management or Business Management, or related field.
  • Nine (9) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Required Experience

Five (5) years of in quality assurance, healthcare or a high regulated environment. Previous supervision.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Experience in Blood Banking.
  • Lean or Six Sigma Training.
  • An ASQ Certification (e.g. CME/OE, CQA, CQIA, etc.).
