Job Overview

In partnership with the UC Health academic healthcare system and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, College of Medicine’s faculty are transforming the world of medicine every day.

 

This Instructor-Research position (non-tenure track faculty) in the Department of Anesthesiology will contribute to NIH-funded projects studying how glial and immune cells, particularly microglia and peripheral monocytes/macrophages, affect chronic pain.

Essential Functions

  • Lead own research project(s) while supporting other lab members in their research.
  • Supervise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students in the lab.
  • Design and implement laboratory protocols for neuroscience and immunology experiments.
  • Train students in specialized techniques including immunohistochemistry, cell culture, tissue processing and flow cytometry.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, protocols and experimental records.
  • Ensure laboratory compliance with safety protocols.
  • Present own research at departmental events, other labs, and national and international conferences.
  • May apply for external funding to gain grant-writing experience and potentially help support the lab.

Minimum Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Immunology, or related field.
  • Three years of post-doctoral research experience.
  • Strong publication record (at least 2 publications with impact factor higher than 10 in the last three years) in pain research and neuroimmunology.
  • Three academic years of university-level teaching experience and grant writing (including at least one submitted NIH grant in the last three years).

  • Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
