Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati, Hoxworth Blood Center (HBC) is recruiting for several part-time, Experienced Phlebotomist / Donor Care Technician 2 positions, in the Donor Services Division. The intended candidate will register and screen prospective blood donors and process blood donors at the Hoxworth Blood Center Neighborhood Donor Centers and Mobile Operations. This position will support the University's mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff, and all our activities.

 

We have current part-time (60-75% FTE, 24-30 hours per week) openings in the following Neighborhood Donor Center locations:
Blue Ash, OH, Anderson, OH, North (West Chester, OH), West (Bridgetown North, OH), Ft. Mitchell, Ky

 

Varying shifts are available.  Occasional holiday and rotating weekend shifts are required.
Competitive starting pay rate: $18.93 per hour, Benefit options vary based on FTE %
 

 

This position requires friendly, patient, reliable individuals that will be responsible for taking vital signs, performing venipuncture, and providing post-donation care for our community of volunteer blood donors. Experience in customer service and phlebotomy is ideal; excellent communication skills, a focus on quality, and the ability to work a flexible schedule are essential.  This position offers opportunities for career advancement, mentorship, and continued education.

Essential Functions

  • Guide donors through the process and provide education opportunities throughout the experience.
  • Obtain and update registration information prior to donation according to established departmental procedures.
  • Obtain thorough and accurate donor medical histories to determine donor eligibility.
  • Perform documentation to meet regulatory and HBC procedures and guidelines.
  • Correctly perform, record, and evaluate all Quality Control of equipment for collection operation. Ensure equipment is clean and in good working condition. 
  • Determine suitability of prospective donors based upon evaluation of health history and physical findings. Document records concurrently, ensure all records are complete, legible, and accurate.   Accurately label collection bags, component collections containers, and records with unique identifying number for each donor.
  • Select vein, prepare venipuncture site, and perform phlebotomy for whole blood component collections. Appropriately discontinue whole blood and component collection and fills pilot tubes. Recognize and appropriately manage adverse donor reactions.
  • Store whole blood and blood components according to standard procedures.
  • Perform the duties of the receptionist in his/her absence.
  • Maintain clean and orderly donor area.
  • Answer the telephone, direct calls appropriately, and initiate calls to assist with donor scheduling.
  • Maintain appropriate computer skills as required.
  • Float to all HBC sites or mobiles as assigned.
  • Responsible for set-up and dismantling of blood collection equipment in according to established plan.
  • Stock supplies in designated locations as needed.

Required Education

High School Diploma or GED

Required Trainings/Certifications

Valid driver's license with an acceptable record

Required Experience

One (1) year of relevant work experience

Additional Qualifications Considered
