Job Overview

THE UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI COLLEGE OF LAW seeks to hire up to four entry-level tenure-track faculty members. We welcome candidates across all areas of law and encourage applications from persons who would add to the diversity of our academic community. Applicants must possess a J.D. or equivalent degree and excellent academic credentials and have demonstrated potential for outstanding teaching and scholarship. We are interested in applicants with a wide variety of professional and academic experiences and backgrounds.

Essential Functions

  • As senior faculty, may act as a mentor for junior faculty, research associates, and graduate students
  • Provide input and make recommendations on departmental budgets, purchasing of technology and equipment, and potential disciplinary issues
  • Provide leadership role in meetings, participate in governance, prepare materials for teaching
  • Evaluate, design and revise curriculum for department and/or college
  • Conduct and teach assigned undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses and seminars
  • Mentor and advise students on their development, including choices relating to academic program, research projects, and possible career directions
  • Serve on college or university committees and participate in curriculum development activities
  • Engage and lead in other activities ancillary to or in support of his or her responsibilities
  • Render service to the professional or lay community which is relevant to the individual’s academic specialty
  • Review, and where necessary, respond in a timely manner to all University-related communications
  • Other related duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Applicants must possess a J.D. or equivalent degree. 
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and research evidenced by strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals.  Candidates for a tenured appointment should demonstrate intellectual leadership and impact on the field and potential significant contributions to the department, University of Cincinnati, and wider scholarly community.
  • Must exercise self-discipline and have the ability to work with little direct supervision.
  • Possess outstanding leadership skills which demonstrate evidence of effective teaching ability, commitment to student success, and service to the profession.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to present complex material to students unfamiliar with a subject.
  • Must have outstanding writing skills to present research in written format.
  • Ability to work and collaborate with individuals from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
