Job Overview
The University of Cincinnati, Hoxworth Blood Center (HBC) is recruiting several Entry Level Phlebotomists/Donor Care Technician 1, in the Donor Services Division, to register and screen prospective blood donors and process blood donors.
This position requires friendly, patient, reliable individuals that will be responsible for taking vital signs, performing venipuncture, and providing post-donation care for our community of volunteer blood donors. Experience in customer service and phlebotomy is ideal; excellent communication skills, a focus on quality, and the ability to work a flexible schedule are essential.

Starting Pay Rate: Entry Level/Donor Care Technician 1 - $19.20 per hour
Shift: Varies by designated work location. Shift differential pay is available!
Hours: 32-40 hours per week (80-100 FTE%) based on location need.
The incumbent would be assigned at a designated Hoxworth Blood Center Neighborhood Donor Center or on a Mobile Operation Unit. Current vacancies include:
Central Neighborhood Donor Center (Clifton, OH) - (1/1 position available) FT;
Mobile Units (Clifton, OH) - (3/3 positions available) - FT;
North Neighborhood Donor Center (West Chester, OH) - (1/1 position available) - PT;
Fort Mitchell, KY Neighborhood Donor Center - (2/2 positions available) - FT & PT.

Essential Functions
- Guide donors through the process and provide education opportunities throughout the experience.
- Obtain and update registration information prior to donation according to established departmental procedures.
- Determines suitability of prospective donors based upon evaluation of health history and physical findings
- Perform all documentation including reviews, either electronic or manual to meet regulatory and HBC procedures and guidelines.
- Correctly perform, record, and evaluate all Quality Control (QC) of equipment for collection operation.
- Selects vein, prepares venipuncture site, performs phlebotomy for whole blood component collections.
- Maintains a successful phlebotomy rate as defined by the division.
- Recognizes and appropriately manages adverse donor reactions.
- Performs the duties of the receptionist in this person's absence.
- Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.
Required Education
High School Diploma or GED.
Required Trainings/Certifications
Valid driver's license with an acceptable record.
Required Experience
Six (6) months customer service experience.
