We are currently seeking four part-time Educational Advisers, requiring an average of 20 hours/week over the fiscal year. Some flexibility in scheduling might be expected to accommodate busier times of the year.

 

The Academic Success Center (ASC) at Clermont College provides centralized academic support for University of Cincinnati Clermont College students. The ASC also provides campus-wide leadership supporting innovative and evidence-based programming to increase student success.  These positions support the Director of the ASC in delivering writing, mathematics and statistics support to UC Clermont students with a focus on students enrolled in developmental courses.

 

 Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide remedial instruction and guidance to students to improve their academic performance in English and mathematics / statistics including but not limited to students enrolled in developmental coursework
  • Facilitate the development of instructional support resources, workshops, and study tables designed to address the needs of students in the area of English and mathematics / statistics including but not limited to students enrolled in developmental coursework. 
  • Motivate and support students enrolled in English and mathematics / statistics courses across the college
  • Assist with assessing the effectiveness of tutoring services including but not limited to the content areas of English and mathematics / statistic

 

Major Duties

  • Foster an inclusive learning environment
  • Create a positive learning environment for students who struggle with English and Mathematics / Statistics
  • Tutor students in English and Mathematics / Statistics as needed including tutoring online when necessary
  • Establish and maintain a professional and supportive rapport with staff and students
  • Serve as a mentor for English and Math learners and for English and Math peer tutors
  • Document work with students for English and Math tutors
  • Assist in the ongoing development of English and Math tutoring programs
  • Supervise, schedule and train English and Math peer tutors
  • Represent  the university and the ASC in a positive manner and serve as a liaison for the ASC with the English and Math faculty and other internal and external agents for the university and abroad (e.g. advising, accessibility, regional and associations and conferences).
  • Other related duties as assigned and necessitated by the ASC outreach

 

Skills and Attributes

  • The Educational Advisor must possess following skills and attributes
  • Student centered with a strong work ethic
  • Adaptable in dynamic learning environments
  • Knowledge of technology and software as required by the content area
  • Knowledge of university policies and processes
  • Proper knowledge of course materials

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with one (1) year experience -OR- Associate's degree with three (3) years’ experience -OR- five (5) years’ experience
  • Experience must be in educational advising and / or working with disadvantaged children in an educational setting

 

Ideal Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in education with experience teaching post-secondary students in English, Math and Statistics
  • Experience with supervising and scheduling
  • Good organization and communication
