The University of Cincinnati is seeking a Director of Student Financial Aid for Operations/Systems Development/Compliance. This individual will be responsible for operational functions of the Student Financial Aid Office (SFAO) including: overseeing application processing system, managing federal, state & institutional financial aid programs, meeting needs of the annual audit, and providing leadership and guidance to systems and processing staff; coordinates electronic reporting, data management, and new systems initiatives; ensures compliance.  Position reports to the Assistant Vice-Provost of Enrollment Management/Student Financial Aid. 

Description of Duties

  • Systems Development: Coordinates the design, development, installation, testing, implementation, and maintenance of system and related software.  Coordinates development of computer systems solutions to meet business needs and solves problems. Manages all service request submittals. Provides leadership and guidance to system staff. Provides general oversight to daily systems operations. Establishes system hardware and software priorities.  Ensures system compliance.
  • Program Management: Manages all federal, state and institutional financial aid programs including but not limited to Federal Pell Grant, federal campus-based programs, Federal Stafford Loans, and Ohio Instructional Grant.  Oversees contractual agreement programs. Ensures compliance with federal and state rules and regulations and institutional rules and guidelines. Prepares reports. Meets all program-mandated deadlines and works with the yearly audit. 
  • Compliance: Coordinates and oversees initiatives to ensure compliance with federal, state and institutional rules and regulations.  Research issues for compliance to regulations.  Informs and updates SFAO staff of announcements from the U.S. Department of Education to include reading NASFAA daily announcements and recommending procedural changes to maintain compliance. 
  • Administration & Supervision: Member of the Office of Enrollment Services (OES) and SFAO management teams. Supervises operations unit (processing and systems staffs) of SFAO. Sets annual goals and objectives.  Monitors progress and conducts performance evaluations. Provides monthly and ad hoc reports. Files an annual report.
  • Reporting Functions: Serves as liaison with Finance Division in reporting and requesting Federal Pell Grant proceeds from ED. Submits and reconciles electronic reports with state grant programs.
  • Other Duties: Participates in on-going professional development activities. Other duties as assigned including participation in SFAO, OES, Enrollment Management (EM), and Student Affairs and Services (SAS) activities as well as campus initiatives and committees. 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor’s degree with seven (7) years experience; -OR- Associate’s degree with nine (9) years experience; -OR- eleven (11) years experience. Degree must be in a related field. Experience must be in financial aid operations. Experience also requires at least three (3) years supervision.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Master’s degree preferred. Five (5) years of management experience in student financial aid at a 4-year, accredited, non-profit institution in higher education. Candidate should also have a minimum of three (3) years working with the PeopleSoft integrated student financial aid management system running queries, and writing rules at a power user-level. Demonstrated commitment to furthering diversity, inclusion, equity and social justice in a higher education setting.

Active involvement and leadership in local, state, and/or national professional organizations. Demonstrated sophisticated understanding of state and federal reporting and compliance regulations.
