Job Overview

This leadership position will play a pivotal role in overseeing simulation education and operations of the College of Nursing Simulation and Skills Lab. This position will direct, coordinate, develop, implement and evaluate educational, operational and financial activities in supporting the Skills Lab. The Director will report to the Sr Assistant Dean for Academic Innovation and Engagement and will work closely with faculty, staff, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure simulation standards are met in the delivery of simulation education. This position will provide supervision to the members of the Simulation team consisting of the Simulation Coordinator and Simulation Operations Specialists. 

Essential Functions

  • Developing, evaluating, and documenting simulation curricula based on the Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice (INACSL, 2021), the latest evidence, and Ohio State Board of Nursing rule and law.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to create human simulation experiences solutions to achieve the educational goals and objectives for programs.
  • Coach faculty, staff and others in best uses of simulation experiences to achieve educational goals and objectives of their program(s).
  • In collaboration with College leadership, develop plans for facility expansion in order to meet evolving needs and new simulation best practices.
  • Advising leadership on long-range planning for simulation.
  • Ensuring the maintenance and updating of the physical space and ordering of supplies.
  • Developing and implementing interprofessional simulation activities.
  • Developing and managing graduate simulation using simulated patients.
  • Supervising simulation center assigned faculty and staff.
  • Participating in program meetings and governance.
  • Submits reports to leadership on simulation activities.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with other academic health center simulation leads.

Required Education

Master's Degree

Required Experience

Six (6) years of nursing experience including two (2) years of experience designing, facilitating and evaluating simulation in a higher education or healthcare setting and two (2) years of supervisory experience in either an academic, simulation laboratory, or healthcare setting

Required Trainings/Certifications

  • Unencumbered Ohio Registered Nursing License.
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or must obtain within the first year of employment. This certification is offered by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH). 

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Doctor of Nursing Practice or PhD in Nursing
  • One (1) year teaching experience in Higher Education

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

  • Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
