Job Overview
Hoxworth Blood Center (HBC) was founded in 1938 and serves more than 30 hospitals in 18 counties in Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky, and Southeastern Indiana. Annually, HBC collects more than 100,000 units of blood from local donors to help save the lives of patients in area hospitals. HBC is located within the University of Cincinnati (UC), College of Medicine (COM). UC COM has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients. In partnership with the UC Health academic healthcare system and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, UC COM's faculty and staff are transforming the world of medicine every day.
Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati, seeking a full-time Director of Apheresis to lead the Hoxworth Blood Center Apheresis Service to align divisional strategy with blood center goals and provide guidance to apheresis manager(s). Oversee departmental operations, manage performance, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Central Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
Essential Functions
- Advance the clinical program of excellence in Apheresis procedures, both for therapeutic purposes and for cell collections in patients and healthy subjects.
Educate rotating visitors and fellows on the core principles and basic practices of apheresis. - Oversee the overall operations of the apheresis service by executing operational goals. Identify and develop strategic opportunities to enhance and optimize efficiency and performance.
- Supervise the planning and execution of the apheresis unit's procedures, goals, and objectives. Oversee the development, revision, and maintenance of standard operating procedures and policies to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Communicate appropriately with management and external clients as needed. Answer technical and medical questions when appropriate.
- Ensure that training and education on apheresis procedures for apheresis RNs, LPNs, medical students, residents, and fellows are conducted in compliance with regulatory agency policies and best practices.
- Act as a subject matter expert and primary point of contact for contracts, assisting with new client onboarding.
- Assist the Chief Transplant Officer with the preparation of departmental budget and monitor annual expenditures to ensure adherence to budget.
- Serve on various university, division and departmental committees, attend meetings/conferences.
- May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).

Required Education
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or related field/specialty.
Required Trainings/Certifications
- Qualification in Apheresis (QIA).
- Current valid RN license to practice in the state of Ohio and Kentucky.
Required Experience
Eight plus (8+) years of experience in nursing, including two (2) years in apheresis. Experience must also include a minimum of three (3) years of experience in a supervisory role.
Additional Qualifications Considered
History of scientific publication and presentation in the field of apheresis is ideal.
