Job Overview

Provide Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) services, including realtime captioning and production of transcripts, to individuals with disabilities including students, employees, and visitors of the university.Provide Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) services, including realtime captioning and production of transcripts, to individuals with disabilities including students, employees, and visitors of the university.

Essential Functions

  • Provide effective, accurate, and impartial speech-to-text services to the university community, including on-site and virtually, across all UC campuses. Provision of service includes necessary preparation such as reviewing relevant materials, meeting with professors or presenters, and assessing logistical arrangements. 
  • Maintain software and equipment and utilize technologies, including enterprise tools, to provide speech-to-text in academic and non-academic settings. 
  • Create and educate on technical workflow for live captioning integrations with enterprise tools and provide troubleshooting for audio/sound difficulties.
  • Maintain compliance with federal and state mandates regarding accommodation of qualified individuals with disabilities including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and adhere to the National Court Reporter Association (NCRA) Code of Professional Ethics.

Required Education

High School Diploma or GED

Required Experience

Three (3) years of experience in CART services, court reporting, or other related experience supporting disability services.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) Certified Real-Time Captioner (CRC) or Certified Real-Time Reporter (CRR), or Global Alliance NER-Certified Speech-to-Text Provider (NCSP) preferred.
  • Graduated from an accredited, court reporter or stenographer training school.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current trends for providing remote speech-to-text services including industry-specific software, audio solutions, and third-party vendors.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Deaf culture.
  • Previous experience as a contract service provider at the University of Cincinnati
