The College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases Research Unit (IDRU), is currently accepting applications for five (5) full time, Clinical Research Professionals, to assist with novel COVID-19 vaccine trial.


This position will support the University’s mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff and all our activities.


General Job Responsibility:   This is a 1.0 FTE grant-funded position.  The Clinical Research Professional coordinate’s Clinical Studies, recruiting and following study participants for the duration of the study.


Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Plans, implements and coordinates all aspects of assigned studies, including creation of study specific source documentation
  • Conducts study assessments for participants including Informed Consent and study eligibility, and collection of all necessary documentation
  • Draws required study labs following Good Clinical Practice and documenting appropriately.
  • Interfaces with Infectious Diseases Center Clinic Physicians and Staff to support practice issues specific to recruitment and follow-up of participants for duration of study
  • Follows large caseload of study participants from study screening through end-of-study evaluations, including all necessary source documentation and data collection/entry
  • Communicates with Principal Investigator and/or sub-investigators for medical direction of studies


Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI):

  • Identifies and collects data used for analysis that will serve as a basis for outcome measurement of assigned clinical research studies
  • Assist in establishing standard operating procedures for continuous review and development of quality improvement plans for our unit
  • Advances research objectives through participation in professional committees and presentations
  • Ensures timely reporting of research data, following study specific guidelines
  • Reviews and confirms review of Network, Industry and local SOPS as assigned and required.
  • Learns and utilizes research database and maintains all appropriate source documentation for research protocols. In addition, completes all sponsor required training, meets with study monitors as required, and assists in the completion of data entry and data queries


To ensure the continued success and growth of unit, participate fully as a vital member of the IDC Research Team:

  • Attends meetings as assigned
  • Completes continuing education and training programs as assigned on continual basis, in addition to continuing education required for licensure renewal
  • Other duties as delegated/assigned


Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related discipline, or equivalent.
    One year related experience, preferably in an academic or clinical setting
  • For nursing-focused role, appropriate clinical procedural experience required
  • Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification
    For nursing-focused role, current/valid RN license to practice in the State of Ohio required, and CR certification preferred


Additional Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2-years relevant research experience preferable
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Meticulous source documentation skills
  • Proficiency in various computer and software applications preferred
  • Infectious Diseases experience strongly preferred but not required
