Job Overview
The University of Cincinnati, Hoxworth Blood Center, Quality Control Laboratory (QCL) is recruiting a full-time (100% FTE) Clinical Lab Scientist (Level 3) for first shift. We seek motivated individuals with strong critical thinking, communication, and independent work skills. Experience in blood banking is ideal. Responsibilities include supervising daily operations, managing the assignment and review of laboratory work, product testing, and projects. Candidates must be proficient in computerized data entry and retrieval and able to communicate effectively across departments.
Compensation and Schedule:
• Sign on Bonus: $5,000
• Starting pay range (based on experience): - $37-39/hour
• First Shift Available (10-hour shifts): 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM
• No on-call hours required

Essential Functions
- Act as Lead Technologist. Provide technical control of laboratory operations. Resolve complex laboratory procedural problems.
- Serve as department manager and technical resource in absence of management.
- Coordinate work of department as well as interactions/projects with other departments. Lead and oversee department operations and projects. Provide technical and operational guidance within department and with other departments in related projects. Organize, execute and control laboratory procedures and projects.
- Perform routine and complex tests on blood samples for patients. Interpret results. Clerically process incoming patient blood samples.
- Compose written case reports for hospital patient referrals, when appropriate. Assume on-call responsibilities, as required.
- Comply with cGMP requirements (in appropriate areas) regarding test interpretation and validity of results.
- Communicate and report test results to external customers, as well as internal. Respond to other healthcare professionals’ questions regarding results. Ensure compliance, integrity and timeliness of all released results, whether intra- or extra- departmental.
- Prepare laboratory reagents. Develop and perform reagent evaluation studies and other special projects with supervisory review.
- Quarantine and discard blood products with positive test results, when appropriate.
- Assist in the development of new procedures from literature and design new quality control programs.
- Maintain equipment and clean, safe work area.
- Help manage daily workload of other CLS.
- Assume on-call responsibilities, as required.

Required Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Sciences, or other related biological science.
- Seven (7) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.
Required Trainings/Certifications
Some labs require MT(ASCP), MLS(ASCP), BB(ASCP), or SBB(ASCP).
Required Experience
Three (3) years of laboratory-related experience.
