The University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine, Hoxworth Blood Center, Immunohematology Reference Laboratory is recruiting for a Clinical Lab Scientist 2 position, to assist with coordination of assignment and review of laboratory or product testing. The candidate will organize, execute and conduct clinical laboratory testing and/or product manufacturing. This position will support the University's mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff, and all our activities.

Essential Functions

  • Provide continuity of services and resolutions for moderate to complex technical situations within the specialty. 
  • Assist in the provision of data for research and publications.
  • Advise customers on methods and procedures to use.
  • Provide technical explanations regarding results or products. Respond to other healthcare professionals’ questions regarding results. 
  • Review and report testing, projects, and other assignments progress periodically as determined by the supervisor. 
  • Perform testing, interpret and record results. Perform quality control and proficiency testing. Communicate and report test results to external and internal customers.
  • Clerically process incoming patient blood samples. Compose written case reports for hospital patient referrals, when appropriate. 
  • Prepare laboratory reagents. Develop and perform reagent evaluation studies and other special projects with supervisory review.
  • Comply with cGMP requirements (in appropriate areas) regarding test interpretation and validity of results. 
  • Quarantine and discard blood products with positive test results, when appropriate. 
  • Maintain equipment and clean, safe work area.
  • Assume on-call responsibilities as required.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Sciences, or other related biological science.
  • Six (6) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Required Trainings/Certifications

Some labs require MLT(ASCP), MLS(ASCP), MT(ASCP), BB(ASCP), SBB(ASCP).

Required Experience

Two (2) years of relevant experience.
