Job Overview

Hoxworth Blood Center is an independent community blood center, dedicated to the promotion of research and education in transfusion medicine and cell therapies. 


The Transplantation Immunology laboratory at Hoxworth Blood Center provides histocompatibility testing for Greater Cincinnati’s growing solid organ and stem cell transplant programs. The desired candidate for the Clinical Laboratory Scientist I position will have experience in serology, flow cytometry, and molecular techniques. On the job training can be provided for the right candidate. Computer skills, good communication, and the ability to work independently are required. Position requires participation in all aspects of TID laboratory operations.


This position will be trained on 1st shift and will be assigned to the 3rd shift after training is completed.


Conduct clinical laboratory testing and/or product manufacturing. 

Essential Functions

  • Perform testing, interpret and record results.
  • Perform quality control and proficiency testing.
  • Comply with cGMP requirements (in appropriate areas) regarding test interpretation and validity of results.
  • Communicate and report test results to external customers, as well as internal. 
  • Respond to other healthcare professionals’ questions regarding results
  • Clerically process incoming patient blood samples. Compose written case reports for hospital patient referrals, when appropriate.
  • Prepare laboratory reagents. Develop and perform reagent evaluation studies and other special projects with supervisory review.
  • Quarantine and discard blood products with positive test results, when appropriate.
  • Maintain equipment and clean, safe work area.
  • Assume on-call responsibilities, as required.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Sciences, or other related biological science.
  • Four (4) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Required Trainings/Certifications

Some labs require MLT(ASCP), MLS(ASCP), MT(ASCP), BB(ASCP), or SBB(ASCP).
