Job Overview
Since its founding in 1970, the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine has transformed into a leading institution, tripling its physician faculty and quadrupling CRNAs and advanced practice providers, thanks to visionary leadership from previous chairs. Under their guidance, the department has established enhanced patient care models, optimized preoperative processes, and solidified its status as a regional academic medical center for complex care. The Department presents an outstanding opportunity for the next Chair. A national search is underway.
The new Chair will arrive at a critical juncture for the Department of Anesthesiology and the College of Medicine. Reporting to new Dean and Senior Vice President for Health Affairs Dr. Greg Postel, the Chair will work collaboratively toward developing initiatives that support the strategic plan to establish the Department as a leader in clinical care, education, and research, supporting world-class surgical programs with cutting-edge infrastructure and training pathways.
Essential Functions
The new Chair must be innovative and decisive in implementing new approaches to the organization of service delivery, while also communicating and advocating for the principles of quality, safety, and compassionate patient care. The Chair of Anesthesiology must also be committed to achieving the appropriate balance between providing high levels of clinical service and ensuring that the faculty’s efforts in research and education continue to build the reputation of the Department regionally and nationally. Mentoring and support of faculty, including advanced practice providers, as well as trainees will be essential to the continued growth of the Department.
The successful candidate will possess significant experience leading and managing an academic unit in a complex environment. She/he will demonstrate interpersonal skills that will ensure successful relationship building with leadership, as well as the faculty and staff within the Department and with other Departments across the institution. The Chair will be a transparent, accessible and transformative leader with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with the various external and internal stakeholders.
Minimum Requirements
All candidates must hold an M.D., D.O., or combined M.D. degree such as M.D./Ph.D., etc., and meet the qualifications for the academic rank of Professor. The candidate will have obtained board certification in Anesthesiology and possess or be eligible for a medical license in the State of Ohio.
