Job Overview
Hoxworth Blood Center (HBC), University of Cincinnati, was founded in 1938 and serves more than 30 hospitals in 18 counties in Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky, and Southeastern Indiana. Annually, Hoxworth collects more than 100,000 units of blood from local donors to help save the lives of patients in area hospitals. Hoxworth Blood Center: Saving Lives Close to Home. HBC is located within the College of Medicine and is the only Regional Blood Center owned and operated by a university in the United States.
Hoxworth Blood Center is recruiting a Cellular Therapies Technologist 1 (Clinical Lab Scientist) to join the Cellular Therapies Division. This role will support Cincinnati's growing cellular therapies market and involves the performance of a range of laboratory procedures. New hires will be trained on first shift (8:30 AM to 5:00 PM), then assigned to their respective shift following successful completion of training.
Compensation and Schedule:
• SIGN ON BONUS: $5,000
• Starting pay range (based on experience): $28-32/hour
• Shift After Training: 8-hour shift - 11:00 AM - 7:30 PM
• Shift differential: $4/hour after 6:00 pm
• Rotational on-call hours required

Essential Functions
- Perform processing and cryopreservation of hematopoietic progenitor cell collections for bone marrow transplant patients.
- Perform routine cell processing operations and innovative cell selection techniques for the production of novel cellular therapy products for clinical trial use.
- Participate in laboratory operations that support clinical cell processing; maintaining supply inventories, perform equipment validations and quality control test procedures.
- Write Standard Operating Procedures, (SOPs), generate reports, etc.
- Comply with cGTP and cGMP regulatory requirements.
- Perform moderate complexity mathematical calculations.
- Report test results to healthcare professionals and respond to questions appropriately.
- Communicate effectively with clinical site personnel and other internal and external customers.
- Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.
Required Education
Bachelor's degree in a Life Science.
Required Experience
- Understanding of the fundamental concepts of laboratory practices (for ex: sterile technique, universal precautions).
- Possess essential computer skills, such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
Additional Qualifications Considered
Associate’s degree in a Life Science and three (3) years of work experience in a laboratory setting.
