At the University of Cincinnati’s Division of Experience-Based Learning and Career Education (ELCE), we believe that experiential learning and career education are key components of higher education. In support of this, we develop and deliver innovative, high-impact courses, programs, and services which foster students’ personal and professional growth as dynamic, thoughtful, global citizens. We collaborate with campus, industry, and community partners to develop rich opportunities and experiences for students to learn both inside and outside the classroom.
 

The Educational Adviser – Career Coach will be an integral part of ELCE’s Career Education team. The position will report to the Senior Director and we are seeking to fill two positions

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual career coaching to undergraduate and graduate students, and alumni on topics including career and industry exploration, assessments, job search strategies, interview preparation, networking skills, resume and cover letter critiques, and job negotiation skills;
  • Liaise with the UC colleges and external constituents regarding student career development;
  • Create and deliver presentations and workshops to classrooms, student organizations, and to other partners as necessary;
  • Use job search systems such as Handshake, LinkedIn, and other resources and teach students to effectively use these systems;
  • Develop and maintain a robust repository of student resources related to career and professional development;
  • Collaborate with campus partners to strategize on how career education can be further imbedded in New Student Orientation at both the institutional and college-level. Coordinate related presentations.
  • Support marketing efforts related to program services, resources and events including UC career week;
  • Support career education training for academic advisors to increase campus-wide knowledge of career development and opportunities;
  • Research and analyze relevant literature to determine and implement best practices in the field of career development;
  • Serve on relevant Division committees and participate in various University committees and university-wide events to enhance awareness and visibility of the Division as needed.

 

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with one (1) year experience; -OR- Associate Degree with 3 years’ experience; -OR- five (5) years’ experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in higher education or an advising background.
  • Prior knowledge of Handshake career management system.
  • Skill set includes experience in public speaking, organization, program development, and knowledge of career development and the job search process.
