Job Overview
The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) seeks an experience and accomplished Business Officer. The Business Officer will report directly to the Dean of CCM and be responsible for a broad range of fiscal activities and human resource functions to ensure effective operations and the achievement of organization objectives in a cost effective manner. The Business Officer is an integral member of CCM’s senior leadership team and also leads the Business Affairs Office. The financial structure of CCM is complex and includes management of general funds and designated gift funds as well as an array of endowment funds.
Essential Functions
- Annual budget formulation and implementation.
- Monitoring all aspects of Performance Based Budgeting (PBB) process including forecasting.
- Analyze budget to maintain expenditure controls.
- Compile and analyze accounting records and other data to determine the financial resources required to implement programs.
- Match appropriations for specific programs with appropriations for broader programs, including items for emergency funds.
- Prepare regular and special reports and analysis to administrators as requested.
- Provide insightful, thought provoking observations/ideas in a coherent and compelling manner to constituents.
- Provide advice and technical assistance with cost analysis, fiscal allocation, and budget preparation.
- Seek new ways to improve efficiency and reduce expenses.
- Perform cost-benefit analyses to compare operating programs, review financial requests, and explore alternative financing methods.
- Supervise the Human Resources and Business Office staff.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure fiscal compliance with federal, state and UC policies and procedures.
- Review, interpret, and implement measures to comply with Collective Bargaining Agreements with several labor unions at the university.
Required Education
Bachelor's Degree must be in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related field.
Required Experience
Seven (7) years of relevant work experience to include three (3) years supervision.

- Master's Degree/MBA
- The Business Officer should be able to effectively communicate complex fiscal data in a clear and concise manner and provide financial information to support decisions to or not to expend funds based on cost benefit analyses.
- Knowledge of management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques, and coordination of people and resources.
- Knowledge of university policies and procedures is highly desirable along with experience in university financial management.
