About The College

About the Arlitt Center
The Arlitt Center for Education, Research, & Sustainability is part of the School of Education within the College of Education, Criminal Justice, Human Services and Information Technology. The Arlitt Center houses the Arlitt Child Development Center, one of the oldest laboratory preschools in the USA. The program serves preschool children from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds and also acts as a practicum site for students from many programs at the University of Cincinnati. In addition, The Arlitt Center serves as a research site for faculty and students, acts as an observation and training resource for the community, and actively leads initiatives related to early childhood education, human development, educative environments, and education for sustainability. Arlitt is home to the international peer-reviewed journal, Children, Youth and Environments and co-chairs the local community organization Leave No Child Inside of Greater Cincinnati.
Job Overview
The Arlitt Center for Education, Research, & Sustainability, home of the diverse and inclusive laboratory child development program, invites applications for a Business Administrator who will have responsibilities for a wide range of tasks that support the educational and research endeavors at the center.
The Business Administrator will have direct supervisory and financial management responsibilities for the self-sustaining Arlitt Center, including projects/tasks associated with all primary business operations, resource management, staff support, and strategic planning. Responsibilities include day-to-day administration of specialized activities related to a business office and reports to management, provide recommendation and advice to management or other groups on process related topics, and conduct or carry out work procedures and activities in accordance with local, state, federal, and university regulations.
Essential Functions
- Manage all center financial activities, including Head Start and other grant preparations and post-award grant management, contract submission and compliance, tuition billing and accounting, endowments, and gifts.
- Project and prepare budgets and budget reports, monitoring the financial status of the center and other budget allocations.
- May conduct personnel functions for the center, including staff certifications, payroll, and travel.
- Communicate financial and business information as required or requested to the directors and with the UC Treasurer, General Counsel, Accounts Payable, Purchasing, Sponsored Research, Risk Management, External funders, and School of Education and CECH-IT Business Offices.
- Coordinate and manage services as needed with Housekeeping, Facilities, Purchasing, Surplus, and other internal or external service contractors.
- Partner with senior leadership to identify organizational needs and develop solutions that support scalable growth.
- Collaborate with leadership to drive fundraising and sales/service goals.
- Perform related duties based on departmental need.
Required Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related field
- Seven (7) years of relevant education, experience and/or other specialized training can fulfill minimum education and experience requirements
Required Experience
- Three (3) years of financial and administrative experience, including one (1) year of previous supervisory experience
Preferred Requirements
- Must be able to work independently with excellent problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills.
- Must have an exceptional work ethic and propensity to attend to financial and business details inherent in the position.
- Preferred candidates will have familiarity with the early care and education business, grants management experience, and/or skills using the business software platforms used at the University of Cincinnati
- Proven experience leading organizational growth.
