Hoxworth Blood Center has provided care to the region for decades. We are a nonprofit, community organization providing blood components, clinical and technical services to hospitals, physicians and patients and serving as a center for education and research.
Hoxworth Blood Center is seeking a Blood Bank Technologist to perform complex laboratory procedures, which include preparation of red blood cells platelet concentrates, plasma and cryoprecipitate from volunteer whole blood collections; preparation of blood products from automated collection procedures; leukocyte reduction procedures of blood and blood components; irradiation of blood and blood components; freezing and deglycerolizing of red blood cells; open and closed system pooling of cryoprecipitate and closed system platelet pooling; preparation of specialized hospital blood products; processing and shipping of samples to testing laboratory and other duties as needed. Candidate must successfully complete an extended FBI background check as a prerequisite for employment.
The ideal candidate must be able to work a flexible schedule, which may include working 3rd shift, weekends, and rotating on-call responsibilities. A demonstrated work history of the skills and experience necessary to complete these duties is highly desirable.
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree with (6) months related experience; -OR- Associate degree with two (2) years related experience; -OR- four (4) years experience.
