Reporting to the Vice President for Information Technology and CIO (VP/CIO), provides leadership, vision and strategic direction for UCIT’s Enterprise Shared Services division, which consists of Network, Telecomm, Infrastructure, Field Operations, Data Center Operations, Academic Services, Electronic classroom support and Business Applications.  Collaborates with cross functional teams of the unit. Independently anticipates technological challenges and opportunities by developing, implementing and assessing a comprehensive strategic operating plan, building consensus and developing collegial, collaborative working relations with a broad range of constituencies.

 

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  • Serve on the VP/CIO’s management team, participating in decisions affecting the units under direct supervision as well as the organization as a whole; counsels the VP/CIO on the university’s technology challenges and opportunities; serves on various department, division, and university committees, including Co-Chair of the Core Infrastructure and Shared Services IT-Governance committee; member of IT Council Advisory Committee; and member of the IT-Council. Represent UCIT on appropriate university bodies, committees, councils, etc., as requested. Plan direct, provide leadership and execute special projects as assigned.
  • Ensure that Enterprise Shared Services is in compliance with federal statutes and regulations, state and local laws, UC policies and procedures, and relevant contractual obligations; develop backup and
  • continuity plans that anticipate emergencies and system interruptions to avoid failures of critical systems.
  • Plan, prepare and administer the department budget and exercise proper financial controls.
  • Work closely with IT staff and the VP/CIO to drive the divisions’ mission, vision and objectives; anticipate technology needs to fulfill educational and business requirements; review, refine, and establish processes and protocols to build a strong technology infrastructure and provide exceptional technical assistance; ensure that direct technical support is provided in a professional and timely manner to students, faculty and staff; create a customer service-oriented culture; recommend process improvements, efficiencies and systems to the VP/CIO.
  • Communicate with Deans, Chairs, and Directors within the university to identify service needs, potential service solutions, and other management services; ensure that related activities are carried out in accordance with generally accepted principles.
  • Provide direct supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, approve time off, etc.).
  • Perform related duties based on departmental needs.

 

Minimum Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree with ten (10) years or advanced degree with eight (8) years’ experience related leadership experience and include three (3) or more years supervision experience.

 

Five years of experience in a leadership role overseeing Operations in higher education; 8+ years of progressive experience in the field.  Strategic leadership, management and planning experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications:  Proven track record of superior customer service. Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills.  Sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of diverse communities.

 

Experience in managing a large scale Cisco network environment; Aruba wireless deployments; telecommunications, (voice/voicemail, PRI’s, Trunks, Metro-e); Field Operations (Moves, Adds, Changes, phone and data installations); Data Center Operations (large VM Farm and Isolon storage) ; Business Applications (Learning Management System, Multiple Web Applications, Identity Management systems, Microsoft Exchange, Office 365; Identity Management). Understanding of Cloud technology offerings.

 

Established working relationships with the State of Ohio, OARnet and Educause, Cisco, Aruba (HP), AT&T, Verizon, EMC and Cincinnati Bell Technology Solutions.
